Epidemiology, prevention and screening for prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is a growing social problem. The economical impact is high and is likely to become greater in future years, not only because the number of patients diagnosed with prostatic neoplasias is increasing steadily, but also because of the promotion of screening programmes and the rise in the number of surgical procedures available. It can be concluded that, at the present stage, widespread implementation of screening cannot be recommended. The answer to the question of screening can only be provided by large randomised trials, comparing either screening versus no screening, or early versus delayed treatment in patients in whom early cancer is detected by screening.

BACKGROUND Gap-junction-mediated intercellular communication (GJIC) is required for normal development and tissue homeostasis. However, the role of GJIC in human prostate carcinogenesis and progression remains ill-defined. Summary A nasal septal abscess is usually the result of an infected hematoma of the septum. A secondary septal abscess may be the result of infections extending from any of the neighbouring tissues. The necrosis of septal cartilage may lead to nasal deformities and severe impairment of nasal patency and growth. Lymphocele formation is the most common adverse event of pelvic lymphadenectomy during radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. Previous studies failed to favor one surgical technique over the other in terms of minimizing its rate. Data on risk factors for its development are still conflicting and warranting further research. In this mini-review, we aimed to scrutinize available evidence on these aspects and outline current achievements in lymphocele prevention approaches.
