Academic competence, teacher–student relationship, and violence and victimisation in adolescents: The classroom climate as a mediator

2021

School violence is a serious social and public health problem prevalent worldwide. Although the relevance of teacher and classroom factors is well established in the literature, few studies have focused on the role of teacher perceptions in school violence and victimisation and the potential mediational role of classroom climate in this relationship. A total of 2399 adolescents (50% girls), aged between 11 and 18 years (M = 14.65, SD = 1.78) and enrolled in five Spanish Secondary Compulsory Education schools completed measures of classroom climate, school violence towards peers and perception of peer victimisation, and their teachers informed about their academic competence and the teacher&…

Transanal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization With Doppler Arterial Identification Versus Classic Hemorrhoidectomy: A Retrospective Analysis of 270 Patien…

2019

Purpose: Despite the minimally invasive nature of transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization (THD) with Doppler arterial identification procedures, hemorrhoidectomy is still considered the gold standard procedure for hemorrhoidal disease. However, the classical techniques of hemorrhoidectomy have a high rate of postoperative complications. The main purpose of this study is to demonstrate the efficacy and complications of these techniques used for grades II and III hemorrhoids. Methods: A retrospective (case-control) study was carried out from January 2009 to May 2014, and all patients undergoing surgical procedures for hemorrhoidal disease in two French clinics were considered. Application of …

Does Smoking Cessation at Primary Diagnosis Reduce the Recurrence Risk of Nonmuscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer? Results of a Prospective Study.

2020

Introduction: Evidence that smoking cessation at first diagnosis of nonmuscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) reduces the risk of recurrence is lacking. The aim of our prospective study was to analyze the association between patients’ changes in smoking habits after diagnosis and recurrence-free survival (RFS). Patients: After transurethral resection of primary NMIBC, patients were classified as “ex-smokers,” i.e., those definitively stopping, and as “active smokers,” i.e., those continuing or restarting to smoke. Smoking status was reassessed every 3 months during the first year and every 6 months thereafter. Data …

Preparation, Execution and Experience: A Multivariate Evaluation of ANS-SNS Patterns

1985

Aims to verify with multivariate methods how autonomic-somatic changes (composed by skin conductance, heart rate, pulse amplitude, respiration, blood volume and flexor, frontal and orbicutaris oris EMG-measures) from specific patterns according to event-related demands both during (or after) and before events when contentual and temporal knowledge allowing preparation is varied.

246 Survival of elderly patients with endometrial cancer – predicted by preoperative G-8 geriatric screening tool

2021

Introduction/Background* We evaluated the prognostic impact of various global health assessment tools in accordance to conventional prognostic factors in patients with endometrial cancer (EC) older than 60 years. Methodology G-8 geriatric screening tool (G-8 geriatric score), Lee Schonberg prognostic index (Lee-Index), Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) and American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA-PS) – Physical Status System were retrospectively determined in a consecutive cohort of elderly patients with EC. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses and Kaplan-Meier method were performed to determine the impact of the global health assessment tools on progression free survival (P…

A Multivariate Age-Structured Stochastic Model with Immunization Strategies to Describe Bronchiolitis Dynamics

2021

Bronchiolitis has a high morbidity in children under 2 years old. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common pathogen causing the disease. At present, there is only a costly humanized monoclonal RSV-specific antibody to prevent RSV. However, different immunization strategies are being developed. Hence, evaluation and comparison of their impact is important for policymakers. The analysis of the disease with a Bayesian stochastic compartmental model provided an improved and more natural description of its dynamics. However, the consideration of different age groups is still needed, since disease transmission greatly varies with age. In this work, we propose a multivariate age-struct…

Migraine and cluster headache – the common link

2018

Abstract Although clinically distinguishable, migraine and cluster headache share prominent features such as unilateral pain, common pharmacological triggers such glyceryl trinitrate, histamine, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and response to triptans and neuromodulation. Recent data also suggest efficacy of anti CGRP monoclonal antibodies in both migraine and cluster headache. While exact mechanisms behind both disorders remain to be fully understood, the trigeminovascular system represents one possible common pathophysiological pathway and network of both disorders. Here, we review past and current literature shedding light on similarities and differences in phenotype, heritability…

A step towards a field based agility test in team sports. A perspective on return to play criteria

2017

Introduction: Agility performance tests can be limited by the requirement for force plates, timing gates and expensive camera systems (Correia et al., 2012; Green, Blake, & Caulfield, 2011) making application into rehabilitation programs practically challenging. The aims of this study were to assess the reliability of a field based 1v1 agility test encompassing perceptualaction performance that could be replicated in applied settings. A secondary aim was to assess the relationship between the 1v1 agility test with a range of physical performance tests including the commonly used Y step test (Paul, Gabbett, & Nassis, 2016). Methods: Twenty-eight male rugby union players volunteered (Mean ± S…

Quality of life in patients with dysphagia after radiation and chemotherapy treatment for head and neck tumors

2013

Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze subjectively, using the SWAL-QOL questionnaire, swallowing dysfunction and associated factors after treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy in patients treated for head and neck cancer. Material and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, based on the selection of patients with tumors of the head and neck area, treated with radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy during the years 2000 to 2006 at the Oncology Institute of Juiz de Fora. The data were analyzed using SPSS 15.0 software, and were evaluated using the chi-square test to compare differences in proportions between groups. The statistical significance level was set at 5%.
