SURCOTES MARINES DANS LE GOLFE DU LION ET FORCAGES ATMOSPHERIQUES : VARIABILITE CONTEMPORAINE ET FUTURE (1950-2100)
2010
Sea surges in the Gulf of Lions are mainly forced by southerly and south-easterly winds. This regional-scale atmospheric circulation is leading by a strong zonal gradient between low pressure system over the Bay of Biscay and high pressure over central Europe. This synoptic-scale circulation mostly happens during “Greenland Above” weather regime. In the second half of the 20th century, a slow increase of the sea-level pressure over central Europe increased the probability of having “Greenland Above” weather types associated with a southerly atmospheric circulation in the Gulf of Lions, thus leading to strong surges. A linear regression is used to simulate the interannual variability of high…
Local LGCP estimation for spatial seismic processes
2020
Using recent results for local composite likelihood for spatial point processes, we show the performance of advanced and flexible statistical models to describe the spatial displacement of earthquake data. Local models described by Baddeley (2017) allow for the possibility of describing both seismic catalogs and sequences. When analysing seismic sequences, the analysis of the small scale variation is the main issue. The interaction among points is taken into account by Log-Gaussian Cox Processes models through the estimation of the parameters of the covariance of the Gaussian Random Field. In their local version these parameters are allowed to vary spatially, and this is a crucial aspect fo…

On hidden heterogeneity in directional asymmetry – can systematic bias be avoided?
2006
8 pages; International audience; Directional asymmetry (DA) biases the analysis of fluctuating asymmetry (FA) mainly because among-individual differences in the predisposition for DA are difficult to detect. However, we argue that systematic bias mainly results from predictable associations between signed right-left asymmetry and other factors, i.e. from systematic variation in DA. We here demonstrate methods to test and correct for this, by analysing bilateral asymmetry in size and shape of an irregular sea urchin. Notably, in this model system, DA depended significantly on body length and geographic origin, although mean signed asymmetry (mean DA) was not significant in the sample as a wh…

Paradoksi un maldīgi spriedumi statistikā
2021

Exploring the sources of labour productivity growth and convergence in the Italian regions: some evidence from a production frontier approach
2009
This paper investigates labour productivity growth and regional convergence patterns in Italy over the time span 1982–2000. Starting from some evidence of spatial polarisation within Italian economy, the analysis aims at exploring the sources of this tendency. To this end, an approach based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) production frontiers is employed which allows to decompose labour productivity growth into efficiency change, technological progress and capital deepening, looking then at the relative contribution of each component to regional convergence. Moreover, some measures of human capital and public capital are used as augmentation factors of the conventional inputs. The study …
