2015

EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON R.C. BEAMS RETROFITTED IN FLEXURE AND SHEAR BY PRETENSIONED STEEL RIBBONS
2014
The experimental results of three and four point loading tests on reinforced concrete beams strengthened by angles and/or pre-stressed stainless steel ribbons (CAM system) are presented. The stainless steel prestressed ribbons play the role of adjunctive transversal reinforcement as well as confine the structural element. Six flexural critical beams and nine shear critical beams were tested. In the first group four beams were retrofitted with bottom stainless steel angles and transversal ribbons, with two different spacing. In the second group three specimens were retrofitted by wrapping the beam with the ribbons, while three specimens were strengthned by perforation of the beam beneath the…
COMPORTAMENTO CICLICO DI PANNELLI SOTTILI IN ACCIAIO
2013
Results of experimental tests on Steel Plate Shear Wall (SPSW) placed in steel frames subjected to cyclic actions are presented, stressing the dissipative capacity of the system. The tests were performed at the DISMAT laboratory in Canicattì (AG) on scale specimens. The surrounding frame is made by HEA 160 beam and columns with pinned joint,…
Simplified equivalent finite element modelling of concrete-filled steel tubular K-joints with and without studs
2022
Concrete Filled Steel Tubular (CFST) K-joints employed for truss structures gained high interest in the last years due to their widespread use in engineering practice. The overall performances of these joints can be efficiently improved by using steel studs welded in the inner surface of the steel chord filled with the concrete, avoiding punching shear failure, and improving the overall strength and ductility. However, a reliable prediction of the structural behavior of the joints is outmost of importance for the assessment of the capacity of new and existing structures, and there are no standardized design methods nowadays. In this paper, the structural performances of CFST K-joints with a…
Temporary Strengthening Technique of Marble Columns with Steel Wires and Wood Spars
2014
Granite, marble and heavy stone columns have been used in the architects from all the ages to answer to both aesthetical and structural requirements in ancient churches and historical buildings. Such materials offer great visual impact and have mechanical properties that allow their use in construction and to obtain bright and slender structures. Marble is a very high strength but brittle material. It often occur that marble or granite columns of historical building are cracked along their height due to external actions and the risk of buckling occurs. Because this kind of failure is sudden and very brittle in stone and rocks, an immediate strengthening of the columns is needed. Among e tem…
Assessment of the load carrying capacity of reinforced concrete columns strengthened by steel cages Specificità nella valutazione della capacità port…
2018
In the present paper, a selected review of the most relevant analytical models provided for the evaluation of the con-finement properties of Steel Jacketed RC columns is discussed. The reliability of the models is tested by comparing the analytical predictions of the load capacity with experimental results available in the literature depending on the type of mechanical end-connections. Moreover, new considerations regarding the application of the steel jacketing on columns while loaded are faced by experimental investigation
