Predictor variables of performance in recreational male long-distance inline skaters.
2011
We investigated the associations between selected anthropometric and training characteristics with race time in 84 recreational male long-distance inline skaters at the longest inline marathon in Europe, the 'Inline One-eleven' over 111 km in Switzerland, using bi- and multivariate analysis. The mean (s) race time was 264 (41) min. The bivariate analysis showed that age (r = 0.30), body mass (r = 0.42), body mass index (r = 0.35), circumference of upper arm (r = 0.32), circumference of thigh (r = 0.29), circumference of calf (r = 0.38), skin-fold of thigh (r = 0.22), skin-fold of calf (r = 0.27), the sum of skin-folds (r = 0.43), percent body fat (r = 0.45), duration per training unit in in…
Angiopoietin 2 and Neuropeptide Y are Associated with Diabetic Kidney Disease in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
2020
Abstract Background Serum angiopoietin 2 levels have been associated with endothelial dysfunction and diabetic kidney disease. Derangements in autonomous nervous system lead to increased production of vasoconstrictory and angiogenic mediators such as norepinephrine and neuropeptide Y and are associated with increased risk of microvascular complications. Aim To investigate associations between angiopoietin 2, neuropeptide Y and diabetic kidney disease in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Methods 289 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus duration > 1 year were included. Patients were stratified according to presence of diabetic nephropathy (macroalbuminuria, estimated glomerular fil…
Selected Predictors of the Sense of Intimacy in Relationships of Young Adults
2019
The main research objective of this study was seeking the predictive role of closeness to parents, attachment, identity style, identity commitment, type of relationship, and having children in intimacy among young women and men. Many studies indicate differences in the level of engagement, communication, and satisfaction in relationships. The study group comprised 227 people, including 114 women (M = 29.99
How to predict a high rate of inappropriateness for upper endoscopy in an endoscopic centre?
2010
Abstract BACKGROUND: Inappropriateness of upper endoscopy (EGD) indication causes decreased diagnostic yield. Our aim of was to identify predictors of appropriateness rate for EGD among endoscopic centres. METHODS: A post-hoc analysis of two multicentre cross-sectional studies, including 6270 and 8252 patients consecutively referred to EGD in 44 (group A) and 55 (group B) endoscopic Italian centres in 2003 and 2007, respectively, was performed. A multiple forward stepwise regression was applied to group A, and independently validated in group B. A <70% threshold was adopted to define inadequate appropriateness rate clustered by centre. RESULTS: discrete variability of clustered appropriaten…
Gully erosion susceptibility assessment by means of GIS-based logistic regression: A case of Sicily (Italy)
2014
article i nfo Article history: This research aims at characterizing susceptibility conditions to gully erosion by means of GIS and multivariate statistical analysis. The study area is a 9.5 km 2 river catchment in central-northern Sicily, where agriculture ac- tivities are limited by intense erosion. By means of field surveys and interpretation of aerial images, we prepared a digitalmap of thespatial distribution of 260 gulliesinthestudy area.Inaddition, fromavailable thematicmaps, a 5 m cell size digital elevation model and field checks, we derived 27 environmental attributes that describe the variability of lithology, land use, topography and road position. These attributes were selected f…
An efficient one pot transfer hydrogenation and N-alkylation of quinolines with alcohols mediated by Pd/C/Zn
2012
A Pd/C/Zn mixture with alcohols has been revealed to be an efficient transfer hydrogenation system to quinolines. Furthermore, the metals mixture is able to activate alcohols as N-alkylating agents in a hydrogen autotransfer process. 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroquinolines and N-alkylated tetrahydroquinolines from quinolines have been obtained with excellent yields in one step.
A Refractive Index Sensor Based on the Resonant Coupling to Cladding Modes in a Fiber Loop
2013
We report an easy-to-build, compact, and low-cost optical fiber refractive index sensor. It consists of a single fiber loop whose transmission spectra exhibit a series of notches produced by the resonant coupling between the fundamental mode and the cladding modes in a uniformly bent fiber. The wavelength of the notches, distributed in a wavelength span from 1,400 to 1,700 nm, can be tuned by adjusting the diameter of the fiber loop and are sensitive to refractive index changes of the external medium. Sensitivities of 170 and 800 nm per refractive index unit for water solutions and for the refractive index interval 1.40-1.442, respectively, are demonstrated. We estimate a long range resolut…
Two-core transversally chirped microstructured optical fiber refractive index sensor
2014
We present a sensing architecture consisting of a two-core chirped microstructured optical fiber (MOF) for refractive index sensing of fluids. We show that by introducing a chirp in the hole size, the MOF can be a structure with decoupled cores, forming a Mach-Zehnder interferometer in which the analyte directly modulates the device transmittance by its differential influence on the effective refractive index of each core mode. We show that by filling all fiber holes with analyte, the sensing structure achieves high sensitivity (transmittance changes of 300 per RIU at 1.42) and has the potential for use over a wide range of analyte refractive index.
Application of a Novel Refinement Method for Accurate Determination of Chemical Diffusion Coefficients in Electroactive Materials by Potential Step T…
2005
We describe application of a novel refinement method for an accurate determination of the chemical diffusion coefficient, D, and the generalized kinetic parameter, A, from experimental potentiostatic intermittent titration technique (PITT) data suited for a variety of electrochemically doped electroactive polymers and inorganic intercalation host materials. The proposed, simple, two-step refinement procedure, based on earlier derived analytical expressions for the PITT response, is exemplified by the analysis of chronoamperometric responses to small-amplitude potential perturbation for p- and n-doped poly(fluorenone-bithiophene) (PFDOBT-HH) thin film electrode. The initial p-doping and the …
Efficient two-step synthesis of face-to-face meso-substituted bis(corrole) dyads
2008
The synthesis of face-to-face meso-substituted bis(corrole) systems was revisited. By using a new synthetic pathway, the reaction was generalized to any type of linker and the yield was considerably increased. The dyads were obtained in yields up to 20 % from a dialdehyde linker and dipyrromethane in a one-step reaction. The best reaction conditions required a decreased amount of TFA catalyst (1.4 equiv.) and a large excess of dipyrromethane (up to 8 equiv). Under these conditions, four bis(corrole)s linked by 2,2′-diphenyl ether, 9,9-dimethylxanthene, anthracene, and dibenzofuran spacers were synthesized.(© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
