Age represents an exclusion criterion in randomized clinical trials designed to test the efficacy and safety of inhaled drugs in asthma. As a consequence, data on efficacy and safety of inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and long-acting β2 agonist (LABA) combinations in elderly asthmatics are scanty. Older age is associated with an increased proportion of comorbid conditions; in addition, all organ functions undergo a process of senescence, thus reducing their ability to metabolize the agents. Literature and experimental data indicate that ASA is a highly soluble and highly permeable drug, leading to assignment of this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to Class I of the Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS). The effect of prednisolone and non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs on PMNL (polymorphonuclear leucocytes) oxidative metabolism was quantified with a newly standardized NBT test, and it was investigated whether these effects correlate with phagocytosing capacity of PMNL. Prednisolone inhibits NBT reduction in dose dependency already at concentrations, which do not interfere with phagocytosis. Thus prednisolone dissociates phagocytosis and phagocytosis-associated oxidative metabolism. High doses of prednisolone also inhibit phagocytosis. Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is among the most challenging acute or chronic liver conditions to be handled by physicians. Despite its low incidence in the general population, DILI is a frequent cause of acute liver failure. As such, the possibility of DILI should be considered in all patients who present with acute liver damage, independent of any known pre-existing liver disease. On the co-orbital asteroids in the solar system: medium-term timescale analysis of the quasi-coplanar objects

The focus of this work is the current distribution of asteroids in co-orbital motion with Venus, Earth and Jupiter, under a quasi-coplanar configuration and for a medium-term timescale of the order of 900 years. A co-orbital trajectory is a heliocentric orbit trapped in a 1:1 mean-motion resonance with a given planet. As such, to model it this work considers the Restricted Three-Body Problem in the planar circular case with the help of averaging techniques. 2-Deoxyecdysone is a circulating ecdysteroid in the beetle Zophobas atratus

A qualitative analysis of ecdysteroids has been performed during the post-embryonic development of the tenebrionid beetle, Zophobas atratus, by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with enzyme immunoassay (EIA) using two different antibodies. Three HPLC peaks were found to be immunoreactive, in hemolymph extracts of both sexes. Moreover, these peaks had ecdysteroid-like UV spectra, determined using a photodiode array detector. Abstract The first step in ecdysteroidogenesis, i.e. the 7,8-dehydrogenation of dietary cholesterol (C) to 7-dehydrocholesterol (7dC), is blocked in Drosophila melanogaster homozygous woc (without children) third instar larval ring glands (source of ecdysone). Unlike ring glands from wild-type D. melanogaster larvae, glands from woc mutants cannot convert radiolabelled C or 25-hydroxycholesterol (25C) to 7dC or 7-dehydro-25-hydroxycholesterol (7d25C) in vitro, nor to ecdysone (E). Abstract The post-embryonic development of the beetle Tenebrio molitor presents a variable number of larval instars. Several parameters (instar length, time of apolysis and cuticle deposition) were compared during the larval-larval and larval-pupal cycles of mealworms over 50 mg, reared in grouped or isolated conditions. In grouped conditions comparable to mass breeding, larval-larval and larval-pupal apolyses were found to occur at the same time, but instar duration was longer in the case of prepupae. Evolution of ecdysteroids and of their apolar conjugates during the post-embryonic development of the tickOrnithodoros moubata

The ecdysteroid (ES) content of the soft tick Ornithodoros moubata was investigated during the five successive nymphal molting cycles by means of an enzyme immunoassay (EIA). Samples were submitted to esterase hydrolysis in order to release free ecdysteroids from the acyl-ester conjugates (AP = apolar products). Crude and hydrolysed extracts were then analyzed by EIA using two different antibodies, a monoclonal raised against 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and a polychlonal raised against ecdysone (E).
