Long-term evaluation of quality of life and gastrointestinal well-being after segmental colo-rectal resection for deep infiltrating endometriosis (EN…

2019

Purposes: The primary objective is to assess the long-term quality of life (QoL) and gastrointestinal well-being in patients with endometriosis (DIE) who underwent segmental resection (SR), through specific questionnaires focused on endometriosis and specific gastrointestinal evaluation. The secondary objectives are represented by the evaluation of peri-operative and post-operative outcomes of the procedure. Methods: This observational cohort study ENDO-RESECT (ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT03824054) reports all clinical data about women who underwent SR for DIE between October 2005 and November 2017. In the part of the study dedicated to the QoL assessment, the questionnaires adopted were the …

Quality of Life in Women After Pelvic Exenteration for Gynecological Malignancies: A Multicentric Study

2018

Objectives This retrospective, multicentric study investigates quality-of-life issues and emotional distress in gynecological cancer survivors submitted to pelvic exenteration (PE). Methods The Global Health Status scale of European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Core Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ-C30; the EORTC QLQ-CX24 (CX24), and EORTC QLQ-OV28 questionnaires were administered at least 12 months from surgery only in women with no evidence of further recurrence after PE. Statistical analysis was performed by the analysis of variance (for repeated measures. Results Ninety-six subjects affected by gynecological malignancies receiving PE were enrolled in the s…

Surgical Neuropelveology: Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve Endometriosis. Laparoscopic Resection and Nerve Transplantation

2021

ABSTRACT Study Objective To demonstrate the application of surgical neuroanatomic principles for the diagnosis and treatment of deep infiltrating endometriosis involving the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. Design Video demonstration of laparoscopic lateral femoral cutaneous endometriosis resection with nerve transplant. Setting Endometriosis infiltrating somatic nerves is a poorly known condition, which can cause severe neuropathic symptoms [1] and is often unrecognized with a subsequent treatment delay [1] . Intimate knowledge of pelvic neuroanatomy and expertise in minimally invasive surgery are essential to manage this challenging surgical scenario 2 , 3 , 4 . Interventions Thirty-six y…

Self-Reported Long-Term Autonomic Function After Laparoscopic Total Mesometrial Resection for Early-Stage Cervical Cancer: A Multicentric Study.

2017

ObjectivesThis multicentric retrospective study investigates the early and long-term self-reported urinary, bowel, and sexual dysfunctions in early-stage cervical cancer patients who submitted to laparoscopic total mesometrial resection (L-TMMR), total laparoscopic radical hysterectomy, vaginal-assisted laparoscopic radical hysterectomy, and laparoscopic-assisted radical vaginal hysterectomy.MethodsCervical cancer patients, FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) stage IA2–IB1/IIA1 who submitted to nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy were recruited. Pelvic functions were assessed within 30 days (early outcome) and 12 months after surgery (long-term outcome).ResultsTwo hu…

Extraprostatic Spindle Cell Stromal Tumor of the Prostate: Case Report

2007

Several benign and malignant nonepithelial and stromal-like lesions arise in the prostate. Because such lesions are rare, their recognition is essential, because treatment and prognosis depend on an adequate pathohistologic classification. We report a case of an 83-year-old man with a stromal tumor of the prostate of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP). He presented with urinary retention and rectal constipation. On bimanual examination, a rectally and suprapubically palpable mass was found. Imaging studies revealed a 12 x 8 cm pararectal inhomogeneous mass of uncertain origin compressing rectum and urethra. The tumor was resected by a retropubic approach and examined immunohistochemicall…

Contribution to the flora of Asian and European countries: new national and regional vascular plant records, 2

2014

The paper presents new records for 20 vascular plant species from eight Asian and two European countries. Five taxa (Artemisia campestris, Artemisia tanacetifolia, Delphinium sajanense, Diarthron vasiculosum var. undulatum, Epilobium adenocaulon) are reported from Kazakhstan, four (Deyeuxia yanyuanensis, Poa arnoldii, Stipa gracilis, Stipa macroglossa subsp. kazachstanica) from China, three (Nepeta pamirensis, Silene bucharica, Scrophularia pamiro-alaica) from Uzbekistan, two (Epilobium nervosum, Stellaria zolotukhinii) from Mongolia, two (Oenothera deflexa, Scirpus georgianus) from Poland, one (Coronopus didymus) from Tajikistan, one (Orobanche rumseiana) from Italy, one (Stipa macroglossa…

Sexual, bladder and bowel function following different minimally invasive techniques of radical hysterectomy in patients with early-stage cervical ca…

2021

Abstract Purpose Despite the establishment of radical surgery for therapy of cervical cancer, data on quality of life and patient-reported outcomes are scarce. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to evaluate bladder, bowel and sexual function in women who underwent minimally invasive surgery for early-stage cervical cancer. Methods From 2007–2013, 261 women underwent laparoscopically assisted radical vaginal hysterectomy (LARVH = 45), vaginally assisted laparoscopic or robotic radical hysterectomy (VALRRH = 61) or laparoscopic total mesometrial resection (TMMR = 25) and 131 of them completed the validated German version of the Australian Pelvic Floor Questionnaire (PFQ). Solitary Rectal Ulcer

1979

Solitary ulcers of the rectum may be traumatic in origin and caused by thermometers, occasionally by digital removal of a fecal impaction, or by deviate sexual behavior. Solitary rectal ulcers may also be a manifestation of Crohn’s disease. Very rarely, ectopic gastric mucosa is their cause. For the vast majority of solitary rectal ulcers, the explanation remains unknown. Occasionally, the ulcers are accompanied by localized inflammation of the mucosa within the distal segment of the rectum with edema, erythema, and circumscribed whitish flecks in a thickened bowel wall covered by excessive secretions. The changes are found predominantly in the ventral portion of the rectum, and in contrast…

Fistulae (Rectovaginal, Rectovesical)

1979

The clinical manifestations of a fistula — stool from the vagina, air from the urethra — are often difficult to recognize because the fistulous opening is hidden by the edematous and swollen mucosa. Larger defects occur particularly after radiation therapy and with Crohn’s disease.
