Učinki naglega zmanjševanja telesne mase na moč oprijema pri reprezentančnih rokoborcih

2022

The effects of rapid weight loss (RWL) in combat sports athletes is an area that is not yet fully discovered. Therefore, the goal of this study was to determine the impact of weight loss on HGS (handgrip strength) in Greco-Roman wrestlers. This cross-over study included ten athletes examined for HGS during three time points for each hand. The first measurement – baseline (BL), was performed before we-ight reduction. The second measurement ‒ phase 1 (P1), was taken after high-intensity sports specific training (HISST) combined with RWL. In this phase, participants had to lose 5% of their body mass within three days, after which HISST was carried out (on day 3). The third measurement ‒ phase 2…

The Coupled Magmatic and Hydrothermal Systems of the Restless Aluto Caldera, Ethiopia

2020

Seismicity can be used to better understand interactions between magma bodies, hydrothermal systems and their host rocks—key factors influencing volcanic unrest. Here, we use earthquake data to image, for the first time, the seismic velocity structure beneath Aluto, a deforming volcano in the Main Ethiopian Rift. Traveltime tomography is used to jointly relocate seismicity and image 3D P- and S-wave velocity structures and the ratio between them (V P/V S). At depths of 4–9 km, the seismicity maps the top of a large low velocity zone with high V P/V S, which we interpret as a more ductile and melt-bearing region. A shallow (<3 km) hydrothermal system exhibits low seismic velocities and ve…

The transformation of the Horatian Sabine farm in Persius? Satire 6

2020

The purpose of this article is to focus on the motif of the countryside in Roman satire. In particular, it aspires to study the way the Sabine farm is delineated in Horace's Satire 2.6 and later in his Epistles, in order to elucidate the evolution of this motif in Persius? 6th Satire. In this poem, Persius addresses Caesius Bassus, who retreats to Sabine to seek poetic inspiration, but seems trapped in the paths of earlier poetry and cannot attain bliss, while the poet achieves it in the port of Luna.

Perceived Retaliation Against Internal Whistleblowers: Evidence From Public Institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa

2014

The study uses power relations theory to investigate existence of perceived retaliation against internal whistleblowers in Sub-Saharan Africa using evidence from employees in public institutions of Kenya. Focus was on the way perceived retaliation is related to seriousness of wrongdoing, whistleblower psychological power and management support to whistleblowers. The research design was quantitative, exploratory and analytical using cross-sectional data. Respondents were selected using simple random sampling and requested to complete a self-administered questionnaire. Findings were that perceived retaliation against whistleblowers exists and it was positively correlated to position of a wron…

Reply: Sensory profile in primary restless legs syndrome and restless legs syndrome associated with small fibre neuropathy

2010

Sir, We wish to thank the editor for giving us the opportunity to respond to this letter. We appreciated reading that Drs Gemignani and Vitetta think our study (Bachmann et al. , 2010) provides support for the differential diagnosis of primary and secondary restless legs syndrome (RLS) associated with small fibre neuropathy, when comparing the sensory profiles of these groups of patients for the first time. Dr Gemignani recently wrote ‘A general consensus on the proposed criteria for the diagnosis of small fibre neuropathy has not been established’ (Gemignani, 2010 b ). This already applies for small fibre neuropathy without complicating RLS; however, for the constellation of RLS with small…

Sleep–wake problems in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: implications for patient management

2012

SUMMARY Sleep–wake problems are frequent, although unrecognized, complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep-disordered breathing and restless legs syndrome have all been reported in patients with ALS, despite the limited number of studies and the small populations investigated so far. Sleep disturbances gradually worsen with disease progression, suggesting a relationship between the severity of disease and the neurodegenerative process. However, poor sleep can also be a consequence of several disturbances such as anxiety, depression, pain, choking, sialorrhea, fasciculations, cramps, nocturia and the inability to get comfortable and move f…

Fastlegers informasjonsbehov ved medisinsk avstandsoppfølging : En kvalitativ studie

2019
