Marine data collection and transmission system for ECO-boat

2014

Masteroppgave i Informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi IKT590 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Marine data collection is of great importance because the analytical results based onthe collected data can be utilized for many purposes during the design phase beforesale as well as the maintenance phase of the boat after sale. In this thesis, I havedesigned and implemented a marine data collection and transmission system foryachts. The system can collect data from an NMEA network, a wireless sensornetwork, a custom-made CAN-bus network, and other sensors such as a 9degree-of-freedom inertial measurement units. The collected data is stored both atthe boat and at a remote server. In this design, I us…

Positive effect of the fluorine moiety on the oxygen storage capacity of UiO-66 metal–organic frameworks

2016

Two series of fluorine-containing UiO-66 have been synthesized, replacing the 1,4-benzodicarboxylic acid linker with increasing amounts of 2-fluoro-1,4-benzodicarboxylic acid or 2-trifluoromethyl-1,4-benzodicarboxylic acid. The capacity to store oxygen and nitrogen within these MOFs has been tested, which revealed a positive correlation between the fluorine content and the oxygen storage performances.

Design of high-temperature f-block molecular nanomagnets through the control of vibration-induced spin relaxation

2020

One of the main roadblocks that still hamper the practical use of molecular nanomagnets is their cryogenic working temperature. In the pursuit of rational strategies to design new molecular nanomagnets with increasing blocking temperature, ab initio methodologies play an important role by guiding synthetic efforts at the lab stage. Nevertheless, when evaluating vibration-induced spin relaxation, these methodologies are still far from being computationally fast enough to provide a useful predictive framework. Herein, we present an inexpensive first-principles method devoted to evaluating vibration-induced spin relaxation in molecular f-block single-ion magnets, with the important advantage o…

The effect of prolonged storage time on asphalt rubber binder properties

2019

Abstract This study wants to provide fundamental understanding of prolonged storage time on asphalt rubber binder properties by performing an investigation on the variation of conventional properties, rheology and morphology of four asphalt rubbers maintained at 180 °C in low shear for different digestion/storage times up to 48 h. The analysed asphalt rubbers were manufactured by combining two different asphalt binder grades, pen 35/50 and pen 50/70, with both cryogenic and ambient crumb rubber. Results have shown that keeping asphalt rubber agitated at the above mentioned processing conditions, up to 48 h, is significantly detrimental when an ambient crumb rubber is used, while it seems no…

Local structure of ball-milled LaNi5 hydrogen storage material by Ni K-edge EXAFS

2010

Abstract Local structure of the nanostructured LaNi5 hydrogen storage alloys, prepared by ball-milling, has been studied using Ni K-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. Results indicate that the ball-milling up to 100 h results in the production of nanoparticles characterized by large atomic disorder and slightly reduced unit-cell volume, compared to the bulk LaNi5. High temperature annealing appears to help in partial recovery of atomic order in the ball-milled samples; however, long-time ball-milled samples retain large disorder even after the high temperature annealing. The results suggest that the large disorder and the reduced unit-cell volume might be causing a …

Resonant Raman characterisation of ultra-thin nano-protective carbon layers for magnetic storage devices

2003

Abstract Carbon thin films are very important as protective coatings for a wide range of applications such as magnetic storage devices. The key parameter of interest is the sp3 fraction, since it controls the mechanical properties of the film. Visible Raman spectroscopy is a very popular technique to determine the carbon bonding. However, the visible Raman spectra mainly depend on the configuration and clustering of the sp2 sites. This can result in the Raman spectra of different samples looking similar albeit having a different structure. Thus, visible Raman alone cannot be used to derive the sp3 content. Here we monitor the carbon bonding by using a combined study of Raman spectra taken a…

A multi-technique characterisation of cronstedtite synthetized by iron-clay interaction in a step by step cooling procedure

2013

International audience; The cooling of steel containers in radioactive-waste storage was simulated in a step-by-step experiment from 90 to 40 degrees C. Among newly formed clay minerals observed in run products, cronstedtite was identified by a number of analytical techniques (powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy). Cronstedtite has not previously been recognized to be so abundant and so well crystallized in an iron-clay interaction experiment. The supersaturation of experimental solutions with respect to cronstedtite was due to the availability of Fe and Si in solution, as a result of the dissolution of iron metal powder, quartz, and m…

Boosting the supercapacitive behavior of CoAl-layered double hydroxides via tuning the metal composition and interlayer space

2020

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are promising supercapacitor materials due to their wide chemical versatility, earth abundant metals and high specific capacitances. Many parameters influencing the supercapacitive performance have been studied such as the chemical composition, the synthetic approaches, and the interlayer anion. However, no systematic studies about the effect of the basal space have been carried out. Here, two-dimensional (2D) CoAl-LDHs were synthesized through anion exchange reactions using surfactant molecules in order to increase the interlayer space (ranging from 7.5 to 32.0 Å). These compounds exhibit similar size and dimensions but different basal space to explore excl…

Evidence for Interfacial-Storage Anomaly in Nanocomposites for Lithium Batteries from First-Principles Simulations

2006

We present theoretical support for a mass storage anomaly proposed for nanocomposites in the context of lithium batteries which forms the transition between an electrostatic capacitive mechanism and an electrode mechanism. Ab initio atomic and electronic structure calculations, performed on the Ti(0001)/Li2O(111) model interface, indicate the validity of the phenomenological model of interfacial Li storage and provide a deeper insight into the local situation. Beyond the specific applicability to storage devices, the possibility of a two-phase effect on mass storage generally highlights the availability of novel degrees of freedom in materials research when dealing with nanocomposites.

Cobalt Metal-Organic Framework based on two dinuclear secondary building units for electrocatalytic oxygen evolution

2019

[EN] The synthesis of a new microporous metal-organic framework (MOF) based on two secondary building units, with dinuclear cobalt centers, has been developed. The employment of a well-defined cobalt cluster results in an unusual topology of the Co-2-MOF, where one of the cobalt centers has three open coordination positions, which has no precedent in MOF materials based on cobalt. Adsorption isotherms have revealed that Co-2-MOF is in the range of best CO2 adsorbents among the carbon materials, with very high CO2/CH4 selectivity. On the other hand, dispersion of Co-2-MOF in an alcoholic solution of Nafion gives rise to a composite (Co-2-MOF@Nafion) with great resistance to hydrolysis in aqu…
