In this essay some objections are raised against Markus Gabriel's Sense-Fields Ontology and it is so started a discussion which goes further on the same issue, with the authors' reply. From the perspective defended in this essay, Sense-Fields Ontology is charged with lack of accuracy concerning the definition of some crucial coordinates as "appearance" and "totality". And the point of view of a Reformed Metaphysics, with its insistence on the issues of unity and totality is argued as more apt to face some conceptual challenges of contemporary ontology.

Francesco Orestano rappresentò la felice stagione della filosofi a prodotta nell’Ateneo di Palermo con il contributo di Cosmo Guastella per la Filosofi a teoretica e di Giovanni Gentile per la Storia della filosofia. Orestano, a Palermo, insegnò Filosofi a morale, da titolare di cattedra, dal 1907 al 1924, consolidando la tradizione che nel corso del secolo XIX era stata rappresentata da Benedetto D’Acquisto (dal 1842 al 1860) e da Simone Corleo (dal 1863 al 1891), sulla scia dell’istituzione della cattedra di Etica civile e Diritto naturale, promossa e fi nanziata nel 1783 da Giuseppe Gioeni nell’allora Regia Accademia di Palermo (fondata nel 1778).
