Statistical shape analysis of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm: Correlation between shape and biomechanical descriptors

An ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm (ATAA) is a heterogeneous disease showing different patterns of aortic dilatation and valve morphologies, each with distinct clinical course. This study aimed to explore the aortic morphology and the associations between shape and function in a population of ATAA, while further assessing novel risk models of aortic surgery not based on aortic size. TANGENTIAL DEFORMATIONS ON FIBRED POISSON MANIFOLDS

In a recent article, Cattaneo, Felder and Tomassini explained how the notion of formality can be used to construct flat Fedosov connections on formal vector bundles on a Poisson manifold $M$ and thus a star product on $M$ through the original Fedosov method for symplectic manifolds. In this paper, we suppose that $M$ is a fibre bundle manifold equipped with a Poisson tensor tangential to the fibers. We show that in this case the construction of Cattaneo-Felder- Tomassini gives tangential (to the fibers) star products.

Abstract Gradient elasticity for a second gradient model is addressed within a suitable thermodynamic framework apt to account for nonlocality. The pertinent thermodynamic restrictions upon the gradient constitutive equations are derived, which are shown to include, besides the field (differential) stress–strain laws, a set of nonstandard boundary conditions. Consistently with the latter thermodynamic requirements, a surface layer with membrane stresses is envisioned in the strained body, which together with the above nonstandard boundary conditions make the body constitutively insulated (i.e. no long distance energy flows out of the boundary surface due to nonlocality). ABSTRACT We reported previously on the function of acyl coenzyme A (acyl-CoA) oxidase isozymes in the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica by investigating strains disrupted in one or several acyl-CoA oxidase-encoding genes ( POX1 through POX5 ) (H. Wang et al., J. Bacteriol. 181:5140–5148, 1999). Here, these mutants were studied for lactone production. Monodisrupted strains produced similar levels of lactone as the wild-type strain (50 mg/liter) except for Δ pox3 , which produced 220 mg of γ-decalactone per liter after 24 h. ABSTRACT Five autoagglutinating Aeromonas hydrophila isolates recovered from eels and humans were assigned to serogroups O:14 and O:81 of the Sakazaki and Shimada (National Institutes of Health) scheme. They had the following properties in common: positive precipitation after boiling, moderate surface hydrophobicity (salt-aggregation-test value around 1.2), pathogenicity for fish and mice (50% lethal dose, 10 4.61 to 10 7.11 ), lipopolysaccharides that contained O-polysaccharide chains of homogeneous chain length, and an external S layer peripheral to the cell wall observed by electron microscopy.
