The Strategic Scorecards - An instrumentation of the strategic management accounting : Exploration of a concept, instrumentation and results from a f…
2002
I describe in this study a generic model of strategic management accounting instrumentation: the strategic scorecards. In order to build this generic model, I review in the existing literature the concepts of Strategic Control and Strategic Management Accounting (SMA). I present the characteristics of these concepts and analyse the reasons why they emerged. I show how the strategic scorecards are an instrumentation of the SMA in studying the most widely known and esteemed scorecards: the Balanced Scorecards (Kaplan & Norton, 1996) and Skandia's Navigator (Edvinsson & Malone, 1997). I then clarify the outlines for a generic model of strategic scorecard and disclose an "a priori" typology of …
Development of a Low-Cost IoT System for Lightning Strike Detection and Location
2019
Lightning and thunder are some of the most violent natural phenomena. They generate a great deal of expenditure and economic loss, especially when they strike in cities. The identification of the concrete geographic area where they strike is of critical importance for emergency services in order to enhance their effectiveness by doing an intensive coverage of the affected area. To achieve this purpose at the city scale, this paper proposes the design, prototype, and validation of a distributed network of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The IoT devices are empowered with lightning detection capabilities and are synchronized with the other devices in the sensor network. All of them cooperat…

An Italian Urban “Fashion” The Urban 1 Programme as a Catalyst for Institutional Planning Shift
2014
Since the 1990s Italy has been going through changes and experiments concerning modes and tools of urban government. New methods, based on publicprivate partnership, on a consensual basis, were progressively adopted, overcoming the traditional authoritative mechanisms and role of public actors. The contribution of Community policies such as initiatives on urban areas, has been crucial in creating new tools, influencing the existing ones and activating new approaches to planning. This paper builds some theoretical considerations on the contributions the implementation of European Programmes has given to the changes in the conception of urban interventions and thedebated shift in urban polic…
Izraēlas stratēģiskā kultūra un iesaistīšanās Sīrijas bruņotajā konfliktā
2019
Maģistra darbā “Izraēlas stratēģiskā kultūra un iesaistīšanās Sīrijas bruņotajā konfliktā” autors pēta to, kādi apsvērumi mudina Izraēlu iesaistīties Sīrijas karā. Darbā Izraēlas rīcības skaidrošanai tiks izmantota stratēģiskās kultūras teorija, savukārt darbā izmantotā metodoloģija ir gadījuma analīze. Darba gaitā tiek secināts, ka Izraēlas stratēģiskā kultūra, kura ir balstīta vērtībās, pieredzē un kuru ietekmē ģeopolitiskā vide, ir noteicošs faktors tās rīcībā Sīrijā. Valsti iesaistīties Sīrijas konfliktā galvenokārt mudina Irānas ietekmes izplatīšanās, ko Izraēla uztver kā draudu savai drošībai.
Response spectrum analysis of frame structures: reliability-based comparison between complete quadratic combination and damping-adjusted combination
2019
In the framework of seismic design of structures, response spectrum analysis (RSA) is the most commonly used approach in practice. The most popular combination rule is the complete quadratic combination (CQC) which is also prescribed by the most of seismic design codes and is based on the assumptions that the seismic acceleration is a white noise process and the peak factor ratios associated to the total and modal responses are unitary. Recently, the damping adjusted combination (DAC) rule has been developed for base-isolated structures to overcome the aforementioned simplified assumptions. Although it has been proved that the simplifications about peak factors lead to noticeable errors in …
Dynamic Capabilities Revisited: Lessons from Logistics
2020
Purpose: The identification of the premises concerning shaping and developing logistics capabilities towards firm dynamic capabilities. Design/Methodology/Approach: The article uses an analytical approach based on the results of previous studies. Findings: Logistics capabilities can be perceived and implemented as the strategic capabilities of a firm. As a result, logistics capabilities may aspire to become the dynamic capabilities of a firm. Practical Implications: Logistics capabilities aspiring to become the dynamic capabilities of a firm play an important role in achieving the firm success as well as the firm competitive advantage. Originality/Value: The article presents the significant…
Learning, knowledge and dynamic capabilities: theoretical implications for competitiveness and innovation in the 21st century
2013
The aim of this paper is to support dynamic capabilities as a strategic tool for company management. We will begin by illustrating the evolution that can be discerned in the process of developing competitive advantage as a result of the organisation s internal analysis. In a first stage, interest was centred on understanding the nature of the firm s assets, and knowing which conditions would make it possible to turn them into lasting and sustainable sources of competitive advantage. During a second phase, interest was shifted towards the dynamic processes of generation, development and accumulation of assets. In this sense, dynamic capabilities are those which allow managers to activate and…
Linking Entrepreneurial Orientation and Firm Performance: The Role of Organizational Learning Capability and Innovation Performance
2013
This research contributes to the entrepreneurial orientation (EO)–performance literature by offering a wider picture that includes two intermediate steps: organizational learning capability (OLC) and innovation performance. This study also provides an explanation of intra-industry firm performance differences by focusing on EO. We use structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses on a data set from Italian and Spanish ceramic tile producers. The results support our conceptual model and demonstrate its usefulness in explaining differences in intra-industry firm performance. Findings suggest that OLC and innovation performance should be enhanced by managers in order to boost the positiv…
The case for strategic international alliances to harness nutritional genomics for public and personal health
2005
Nutrigenomics is the study of how constituents of the diet interact with genes, and their products, to alter phenotype and, conversely, how genes and their products metabolise these constituents into nutrients, antinutrients, and bioactive compounds. Results from molecular and genetic epidemiological studies indicate that dietary unbalance can alter gene-nutrient interactions in ways that increase the risk of developing chronic disease. The interplay of human genetic variation and environmental factors will make identifying causative genes and nutrients a formidable, but not intractable, challenge. We provide specific recommendations for how to best meet this challenge and discuss the need …
