Patterns of oncogene co-expression at single cell resolution in cancer influence survival
2020
AbstractBackgroundCancers often overexpress multiple clinically relevant oncogenes. However, it is not known if multiple oncogenes within a cancer combine uniquely in specific cellular sub-populations to influence clinical outcome. We studied this phenomenon using the prognostically relevant oncogenes MYC, BCL2 and BCL6 in Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL).MethodsQuantitative multispectral imaging simultaneously measured oncogene co-expression at single-cell resolution in reactive lymphoid tissue (n=12) and four independent cohorts (n=409) of DLBCL. Mathematically derived co-expression phenotypes were evaluated in DLBCLs with immunohistochemistry (n=316) and eight DLBCL cohorts with gen…
From limit to centrality. Regeneration of the Genoa's port area through architectural and urban design
2012
This survey’s core is the case study of the regeneration of the port area and of the urban waterfront of the city of Genoa, as an emblematic example where the architectural and urban design plays an important role, oriented to the transformation of the port area and to the modification of the relationship that exists between the harbour and the city. In particular this will deepen the possibility, to reverse the condition of limit that characterizes the port area into a new centrality, through the design, passing by intermediate steps that redefine the modalities of access and of connection between city and port, breaking the condition of isolation that ports usually present. As a matter of…
Controversial issues in soft tissue solitary fibrous tumors: A pathological and molecular review
2019
The clinical evolution of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) remains unclear. Although various clinical, morphological and molecular criteria may indicate increased risk of malignancy, some SFT can still progress despite having a clearly benign appearance. Various risk stratification systems have been proposed, but unfortunately they are not sufficient to precisely determine the malignant potential. In this review, we discuss current knowledge on SFT, focusing on the following controversial issues: (i) the diverse morphologic spectrum: 'the great simulator;' (ii) malignant transformation or dedifferentiation; (iii) current risk stratification systems; and (iv) molecular factors associated with cl…
Risk stratification for invasive fungal infections in patients with hematological malignancies: SEIFEM recommendations
2016
Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. Patients with hematological malignancies undergoing conventional chemotherapy, autologous or allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation are considered at high risk, and Aspergillus spp. represents the most frequently isolated micro-organisms. In the last years, attention has also been focused on other rare molds (e.g., Zygomycetes, Fusarium spp.) responsible for devastating clinical manifestations. The extensive use of antifungal prophylaxis has reduced the infections from yeasts (e.g., candidemia) even though they are still associated with high mortality rates. This pa…
Nature log-analytique du volume des sous-analytiques
2000
Using a preparation theorem for subanalytic functions and Lipschitz stratification for compact subanalytic sets we prove that volumes of slices of globally subanalytic sets and density have a log-analytic nature. We also prove that the set of parameters for which the volume of fiber is finite is globally subanalytic.
Wine and Its Legality-A Survey to Know the Consumer Opinions on the Activities of Sicilian Wine Companies Operating on Lands Confiscated from the Maf…
2014
The current guidelines of the European Union Common Agricultural Policy face the agricultural sector in the position of the backbone for the economic development of rural areas and regions with difficult economic differentiation. The EU Common Agricultural Policy defines agriculture as “multifunctional” and among the different roles and functions expected, there is also the “social function”, defined as the ability that the farm has to generate services with respect to a population with risk of social exclusion. This paper investigated all the agricultural initiatives with social impacts that were carried in the lands confiscated from the organized crime (called mafia), mainly in the South …
Laghi Artificiali dell'Italia meridionale e delle isole maggiori
2014

Three-dimensional modeling from the onset of the SN to the full-fledged SNR. Role of an initial ejecta anisotropy on matter mixing
2020
Context. The manifold phases in the evolution of a core-collapse (CC) supernova (SN) play an important role in determining the physical properties and morphology of the resulting supernova remnant (SNR). Thus, the complex morphology of SNRs is expected to reflect possible asymmetries and structures developed during and soon after the SN explosion. Aims. The aim of this work is to bridge the gap between CC SNe and their remnants by investigating how post-explosion anisotropies in the ejecta influence the structure and chemical properties of the remnant at later times. Methods. We performed three-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamical simulations starting soon after the SN event and following the…
Hydrologic and geochemical survey of the lake ‘‘Specchio di Venere’’ (Pantelleria island, Southern Italy)
2007
Hydrological and geochemical studies performed on Lake Specchio di Venere on Pantelleria island (Italy) indicate that this endorheic basin has been formed through upwelling of the water table, and that it is continuously fed by the thermal springs situated on its shores. The lake is periodically stratified both thermally and in salinity, albeit this stratification is rather unstable over time, since meteorological events such as strong rain or wind can determine the mixing of its waters. Periodical analyses of the lake water chemistry show large variations of the salt content due to the yearly evaporation-rain dilution cycle. These processes are also responsible for the saline stratificatio…
