A charge reconstruction algorithm for DAMPE silicon microstrip detectors

2019

Abstract The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) can detect electrons and photons from 5 GeV to 10 TeV and charged nuclei from a few tens of GeV to 100 TeV. The silicon–tungstentracker (STK), which is composed of 768 singled-sided silicon microstrip detectors, is one of four subdetectors in DAMPE providing photon conversion , track reconstruction, and charge identification for relativistic charged particles. This paper focuses on the charge identification performance of the STK detector. The charge response depends mainly on the incident angle and the impact position of the incoming particle. To improve the charge resolution, a reconstruction algorithm to correct for these parameters was …

The AX-PET demonstrator—Design, construction and characterization

2011

Abstract Axial PET is a novel geometrical concept for Positron Emission Tomography (PET), based on layers of long scintillating crystals axially aligned with the bore axis. The axial coordinate is obtained from arrays of wavelength shifting (WLS) plastic strips placed orthogonally to the crystals. This article describes the design, construction and performance evaluation of a demonstrator set-up which consists of two identical detector modules, used in coincidence. Each module comprises 48 LYSO crystals of 100 mm length and 156 WLS strips. Crystals and strips are readout by Geiger-mode Avalanche Photo Diodes (G-APDs). The signals from the two modules are processed by fully analog front-end …

A Tracking and Timing (t-and-t) Front-end Electronics For Rpc Detectors

1992

Abstract The availability of a detector such as an RPC (resistive plate counter) opens new possibility on the future experiments for accelerator and non-accelerator physics. The main advantage consists on the possibility to obtain accurate tracking and timing with a low-cost detector and electronics. We report results on time resolution, signal transmission on long strips, efficiency and maintenance. A possible front-end electronics able to give tracking and timing information on each input channel operating in free-running mode will be illustrated toghether to the preliminary tests performed.

Cryogenic operation of silicon detectors

2000

This paper reports on measurements at cryogenic temperatures of a silicon microstrip detector irradiated with 24 GeV protons to a #uence of 3.5]1014 p/cm2 and of a p}n junction diode detector irradiated to a similar #uence. At temperatures below 130 K a recovery of charge collection e$ciency and resolution is observed. Under reverse bias conditions this recovery degrades in time towards some saturated value. The recovery is interpreted qualitatively as

Experience with the ALEPH silicon vertex detector

1992

Abstract The ALEPH experiment [1] at LEP is equipped with a vertex detector [2] using two layers of double-sided silicon strip detectors. These detectors allow a real two-dimensional measurement of charged particle tracks. The present (1991) detector has the inner layer at a radius of 6.5 cm and the outer layer at 11.5 cm. The theta angle coverage is ±33° for the inner layer and ±50° for the outer layer. The inner layer is made out of 9 faces with four silicon detectors each, the outer layer has 15 such faces. We use silicon detectors of 5 × 5 cm 2 and 300 μm thickness. The readout pitch is 100 μm at both sides and using capacitive charge division a resolution in the order of 10 μm can be a…

Performance of long modules of silicon microstrip detectors

1998

This note describes the performance of modules assembled with up to twelve silicon microstrip detectors. These modules were built for the instrumented Silicon Target (STAR) that has been installed in the NOMAD spectrometer. Laboratory and test beam results are compared with model predictions. For a module of nine detectors, test beam results indicate a signal--to--noise ratio of 19, a hit finding efficiency of 99.8\% and a spatial resolution of 6.0 $\mu$m. Laboratory measurements indicate that modules of twelve detectors exhibit a signal--to--noise ratio of the order of 16.

The beta-decay of95Rb and97Rb

1983

Theβ-decay of 377 ms95Rb and 168ms97Rb has been thoroughly investigated by means ofγ-ray, conversion electron andβ-delayed neutron spectroscopy. More than 97% of theβ-decay to particle-bound states has been placed in level schemes of95Sr and97Sr. High-resolution neutron spectroscopic studies have allowed to extend the knowledge of the excitation spectra up to 9 MeV, respectively 10 MeV. The density of neutron-unbound levels in95Sr and97Sr has been derived from peak stripping analyses of the neutron spectra. Beta-strength functions (S β(E)) have been investigated in detail. They indicate that Gamow-Tellerβ-decay of both precursors is dominated by nuclear structure. The discovered pronounced …

STUDIES OF WIRE GAIN AND TRACK DISTORTION NEAR THE SECTOR EDGES OF THE ALEPH TIME PROJECTION CHAMBER

1986

Abstract The materials used to hold the wires at the sector edges in a large Time Projection Chamber (TPC) inrtoduce distortions of the electric drift field near those edges. These distortions degrade tracking information and sometimes cause large changes in wire gain near the edge. We have studied these two problems for the ALEPH TPC and have found that both can be greatly reduced by the addition of two field correction strips held at appropriate voltages.

First measurement of the lifetime of the charmed strange baryon Ξc0

1990

Abstract We have observed four unambiguous decays of the charmed strange baryon Ξco in the NA32 experiment at CERN. Charge- coupled devices and silicon microstrip detectors were used to reconstruct the decay mode Ξ c o → pK − K ∗ (892) o seen in events produced by the interaction of 230 GeV/c negative poins and kaons on a copper target. We present the first measurement of the lifetime of the Ξco, together with a determination of its mass and production cross section. The resonant components of the Ξco decay are studied. We use our earlier measurement of the mass of the Ξc+ in the determination of the isospin mass splitting of the Ξc states.
