The influence of innovation stimulus, facilitating factors and support mechanisms on innovation performance in Brazilian small textile firms
2020
The ability of the organisation to develop new products is crucial in rapidly changing business environments, and thus, customer demographics, consumers' expectations and buying behaviour play an important role. Hence, exploring the antecedents of innovation performance becomes more important. This study analyses the relationships among innovation stimulus, facilitating factors and support mechanisms for innovative performance in the textile industry of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The sample included 128 respondents, who were all employees of five small and medium-sized textile firms; data were analysed using structural equation modelling. We found that innovation stimulus, facilitating factors…
Predicting Social Distancing Intention and Behavior During the COVID-19 Pandemic: An Integrated Social Cognition Model.
2020
Abstract Background Social distancing is a key behavior to minimize COVID-19 infections. Identification of potentially modifiable determinants of social distancing behavior may provide essential evidence to inform social distancing behavioral interventions. Purpose The current study applied an integrated social cognition model to identify the determinants of social distancing behavior, and the processes involved, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods In a prospective correlational survey study, samples of Australian (N = 365) and U.S. (N = 440) residents completed online self-report measures of social cognition constructs (attitude, subjective norm, moral norm, anticipated regret…
Online Sport Event Consumers: Attitude, E-Quality and E-Satisfaction
2017
Sporting events attract millions of dollars in sponsorship and tourism, so a strong event brand is required. The event website quality is responsible for maintaining and attracting consumers and creating a positive attitude towards the brand. The purpose of this study was to examine key variables that affect the behavior of online sport event consumers. Specifically, it explores e-quality and e-satisfaction and how they influence the attitude towards the website and the brand. Structural equation model tests revealed that a positive quality can determine a positive attitude to the web site, even the consumer is not satisfied with it. On the other hand, the stakeholder needs to pay attention…
The Relationship Between Generalized Resistance Resources, Sense of Coherence, and Health Among Finnish People Aged 65-69
2005
Abstract. The present study investigated the appropriateness of Antonovsky's model, in which generalized resistance resources (GRRs) facilitate an individual's sense of coherence (SOC); which in turn is assumed to sustain health. The proposed model was tested using a sample of 320 Finnish persons (132 of them were men and 188 women) aged 65-69 years. The GRRs investigated were family income, cognitive functioning, years of formal education, marital status, and physical exercise. Health was measured by means of a multidimensional indicator composed of physical, social and mental health. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) within the framework of LISREL models were used to test the hypothesi…
Occupational well-being as a mediator between job insecurity and turnover intention: Findings at the individual and work department levels
2013
This study examined the relationship between job insecurity and turnover intention by applying occupational well-being (exhaustion, vigour) as a mediator. The study was inspired by two theories: the conservation of resources and emotional contagion theories. We investigated the relationships at the individual and work department levels by utilizing Multi-Level Structural Equation Modeling (ML-SEM) with the aim of clarifying whether the mediating mechanism was similar at both levels. In addition, we examined the relationships across the levels (cross-level interactions). Self-report data for the study were obtained from Finnish University staff (N = 2137 individual respondents from 78 work d…
Entrepreneurial orientation and new product development performance in SMEs: The mediating role of business model innovation
2021
Abstract In the current business context, entrepreneurial orientation (EO) has been highlighted as key to improving firm performance. Despite the overall positive evidence on the association between EO and firm performance, scholars have stressed the importance of taking into account and properly managing intermediate capabilities. The present study analyses the link between EO and New Product Development (NPD) performance, considering Business Model Innovation (BMI) as a mediating variable. A sample of 400 Spanish SMEs is used to test the proposed research model through structural equation modelling and partial least squares analyses. Results reveal that EO contributes to BMI and NPD perfo…
Modelling Employee Attitudes to Safety
1999
This paper describes the modeling of employee attitudes to safety in three industrial sectors operating in the UK. Gauging employee attitudes to safety has become an increasingly important method of appraising human factors issues in many organizations. This study is based on data collected from a large survey (n = 2429) of employee attitudes to safety. It attempts to describe the subjective architectures, or explicative model, of employee attitudes to safety in these sectors by relating these attitudes to their appraisals of commitment to safety in their organization. A comparison of models across sector models is also made. The data support the claim that the architecture of attitudes to…
Enterprise Portal Personalization: Direct and Indirect End-User Effects, and the Moderating Effects of Gender
2009
Enterprise portals offer rich functionality for end- user personalization, but few studies have been conducted on the end-user effects of this feature. This article presents a study of end-user effects of personalization, using the combined technology acceptance model (TAM) and the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) as a research framework. We propose that personalization indirectly affects end-users' intentions through effects on ease of use, usefulness, attitude and behaviour control. In addition, it may have a direct effect on end-users' intentions to use enterprise portals that is not mediated by the variables of the combined TAM/TPB-model. Because previous studies have found gender diff…
Empowering leadership, mindful organizing and safety performance in a nuclear power plant: A multilevel structural equation model
2020
Abstract The aim of this paper is to develop and test a model in which empowering leadership is expected to contribute to developing mindful organizing, which in turn should contribute to safety compliance and safety participation. Empowering leadership was measured at Time 1, and the rest of the variables were measured two years later (Time 2). The sample used for the analyses in this study included 49 teams and 200 employees from a company in the nuclear generation industry with three different sites. The multilevel structural equation analysis performed to test the proposed model revealed an acceptable fit, and most of the paths were statistically significant and presented the expected s…
USE OF GAMIFICATION IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: IMPACT ON ENGAGEMENT AND SATISFACTION
2018
The use of games, also called gamification, is innovative an approach in contemporary human resource management. The aim of this research is to assess whether gamification, if used in HR processes, can increase engagement and job satisfaction among employees, as well as to identify which HR processes respond better to gamification. Using data from CAWI interviews (n = 620) and Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) method with smartPLS software, the researchers found a significant positive impact of gamification on employee job satisfaction, however, no impact on engagement. Teambuilding and internal communication were identified as HR processes which better respond to gamification and rec…
