Deposition and characterization of Hydroxyapatite-Chitosan coatings on 304 SS for biomedical devices

2019

During the last years biomaterials have been largely investigated in order to perform and improve biomedical devices. As regards orthopedic field, the most common equipment used (such as implants, bone grafts or screws) are constituted by metallic materials (steel and titanium alloys), characterized by low/medium resistance to corrosion and low osteointegration ability. Furthermore, these factors could produce local inflammations of the tissues surrounding the implants, increasing kinetics of corrosion phenomena. Scientific community has focused the attention on biocoatings interposed between metal and aggressive environment in order to inhibit corrosion. Furthermore, these coatings are abl…

Recent benthic foraminiferal assemblages and their relationship to environmental variables on the shoreface and inner shelf off Valencia (Western Med…

2014

The environmental variables that determine the distributions of benthic foraminiferal assemblages on the shoreface and inner shelf of the north of Valencia province (Western Mediterranean) are identified. The possible influence of variables such as water depth, distance from shore, hydrodynamics, substrate type, carbonate content, organic matter content and human activity is evaluated. Multivariate cluster-Q-type analysis and redundancy analysis (RDA) are used to identify the environmental variables that have the greatest influence on the assemblage distribution. The spatial distribution of the assemblages is closely associated with water depth and substrate. The diversity and abundance of …

Dissection of the structure-forming activity from the structure-guiding activity of silicatein: a biomimetic molecular approach to print optical fibe…

2020

Silicateins, a group of proteins forming the proteinaceous axial filaments of the inorganic biosilica spicules of the siliceous sponges, are unique in their dual function to exhibit both structure-guiding (providing the structural platform for the biosilica product) and structure-forming activities (enzymatic function: biosilica synthesis from ortho-silicate). The primary translation product of the silicatein gene comprises a signal peptide, a pro-peptide and, separated by an autocatalytic cleavage site glutamine/aspartic acid [Q/D], the sequence of the mature silicatein protein. In order to dissect the biocatalytic, structure-forming activity of silicatein from its structure-guiding functi…

Advanced fragmentation stage of oxide coating on polymer substrate under biaxial tension

2005

Crack patterns of 100-nm-thick silicon oxide coating on polypropylene film subjected to equibiaxial stress loading are studied experimentally. The loading is achieved by means of a bulging cell mounted under an optical microscope with stepwise pressurization of film specimens. The evolution of the coating fragment area distribution at relatively high strains is modeled using Weibull statistics to describe the coating strength. The fragment area distribution at an advanced fragmentation stage is shown to scale with the average fragment area, the latter being a power function of the applied biaxial strain.

Measurements of Silicon Photomultipliers Responsivity in Continuous Wave Regime

2013

We report on the electrical and optical characterization, in continuous wave regime, of a novel class of silicon photomultipliers fabricated in standard planar technology on a silicon p-type substrate. Responsivity measurements, performed with an incident optical power down to tenths of picowatts, at different reverse bias voltages and on a broad (340–820 nm) spectrum, will be shown and discussed. The device temperature was monitored, allowing us to give a physical interpretation of the measurements. The obtained results demonstrate that such novel silicon photomultipliers are suitable as sensitive power meters for low photon fluxes.

Energy balance in single exposure multispectral sensors

2013

International audience; Recent simulations of multispectral sensors are based on a simple Gaussian model, which includes filters transmittance and substrate absorption. In this paper we want to make the distinction between these two layers. We discuss the balance of energy by channel in multispectral solid state sensors and propose an updated simple Gaussian model to simulate multispectral sensors. Results are based on simulation of typical sensor configurations.

Gold coated porous silicon nanocomposite as a substrate for photoluminescence-based immunosensor suitable for the determination of Aflatoxin B1.

2017

Abstract A rapid and low cost photoluminescence (PL) immunosensor for the determination of low concentrations of Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) has been developed. This immunosensor was based on porous silicon (PSi) covered by thin gold layer (Au) and modified by antibodies against AFB1 (anti-AFB1). PSi layer was formed on silicon substrate, then the surface of PSi was covered by 30 nm layer of gold (PSi/Au) using electrochemical and chemical deposition methods and in such ways PSi/Au (El.) and PSi/Au (Chem.) structures were formed, respectively. In order to find PSi/Au the most efficiently suitable for PL-based sensor design, structure several different PSi/Au (El.) and PSi/Au (Chem.) structures were…

Coordination environment friendly silicon in copper(I) chloride π-complexes with tetravinylsilane and dimethyltetravinyldisiloxane

2011

Abstract Two crystal complexes of copper(I) chloride with tetravinylsilane (TVS) dimethyltetravinyldisiloxane (DMTVDS) were prepared and examined by IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction: sp. gr. P2/a, Z = 4, a = 13.428(1) A, b = 7.9584(7) A, c = 14.694(1) A for [Cu4Cl4(TVS)]; sp. gr. P21/c, a = 10.505(1) A, b = 13.487(1) A, c = 13.870(1) A for [Cu4Cl4(DMTVDS)]. The influence of the vinylsilicon ligands on the efficiency of the Cu⋯C C interaction is discussed. Thus, the consideration of dSi ← π∗C C ← dCu conjugate system may help to understand how the silicon π-acceptor properties influence on the degree of trigonal distortion of the Cu(I) coordination tetrahedron as well as on the inorgani…

Surface preparation influence on the initial stages of MOCVD growth of TiO2 thin films

2006

In situ chemical surface analyses using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), completed by ex situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) analyses, were performed in order to compare the initial stages of MOCVD growth of TiO 2 thin films on two different surface types. The first type was a silicon native oxide free hydrogen terminated surface and the second one was a silicon dioxide surface corresponding to a thin layer of 3.5 nm thick in situ thermally grown on silicon substrate. Si(100) was used as substrate, and the growths of TiO 2 thin films were achieved with titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) as precursor under a temperature of 675 °C, a pressure of 0.3 Pa and a deposition time of 1 h. Whate…

Selective Synthesis of Partially Protected Nonsymmetric Biphenols by Reagent‐ and Metal‐Free Anodic Cross‐Coupling Reaction

2016

The oxidative cross-coupling of aromatic substrates without the necessity of leaving groups or catalysts is described. The selective formation of partially protected nonsymmetric 2,2'-biphenols via electroorganic synthesis was accomplished with a high yield of isolated product. Since electric current is employed as the terminal oxidant, the reaction is reagent-free; no reagent waste is generated as only electrons are involved. The reaction is conducted in an undivided cell, and is suitable for scale-up and inherently safe. The implementation of O-silyl-protected phenols in this transformation results in both significantly enhanced yields and higher selectivity for the desired nonsymmetric 2…
