Hydrogels for potential colon drug release by thiol-ene conjugate addition of a new inulin derivative.
2008
Inulin was chosen as a starting polymer for biocompatible, pH-sensitive and biodegradable hydrogels. Three INUDVSA-TT hydrogels were obtained by crosslinking inulin derivatives with trimethylolpropane tris(3-mercaptopropionate) under varying conditions. The resulting hydrogels were cell compatible, as demonstrated by MTS and trypan blue exclusion assays acting on Caco-2 cells, and were biodegraded by inulinase and esterase, thus suggesting their use as colonic drug delivery systems. 2-Methoxyestradiol, an anti-cancer drug, was soaked in INUDVSA-TT hydrogels and its in vitro release and apoptotic effect on Caco-2 cells were evaluated.
Molecular Search of New Active Drugs AgainstToxoplasma Gondii
1999
Molecular connectivity has been applied to the search of new compounds with activity against the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, using a stepwise linear discriminant analysis (SLDA) which is able to classify a compound according its activity either as active or as inactive. Among the selected compounds, andrographolide and dibenzotiophene sulfone stand out, both with IC50 values lower than 1 microgram/ml, which are comparable to these of drugs such as sulfamethoxazole, pyrimethamine and trimethoprim, with IC50 values equal to 1.1, 0.04 and 2.31 micrograms/ml, respectively. These results confirm the usefulness of our topological approach for the selection and design of new-lead drugs active aga…
An Easy Stereoselective Access to β,γ-Aziridino α-Amino Ester Derivatives via Mannich Reaction of Benzophenone Imines of Glycine Esters with N-Sulfon…
2007
Mannich-type addition of benzophenone imine glycinates across newly synthesized N-(p-toluenesulfonyl) alpha-chloroaldimines afforded gamma-chloro-alpha,beta-diamino ester derivatives with moderate diastereoselectivity as separable mixtures of anti and syn diastereomers. The gamma-chloro-alpha,beta-diamino esters were efficiently cyclized under basic conditions to the corresponding beta,gamma-aziridino alpha-amino ester derivatives, representing a new class of conformationally constrained heterocyclic alpha,beta-diamino acid derivatives. The relative configuration of the aziridines was determined via X-ray diffraction analysis. Mechanisms and intermediate transition states to explain the ste…
Colour tuning by the ring roundabout: [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)]+ emitters with sulfonyl-substituted cyclometallating ligands
2015
A series of cationic bis-cyclometallated iridium(III) complexes [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)]+ is reported. Cyclometallating C^N ligands are based on 2-phenylpyridine with electron-withdrawing sulfone substituents in the phenyl ring: 2-(4-methylsulfonylphenyl)pyridine (H1) and 2-(3-methylsulfonylphenyl)pyridine (H2). 2-(1H-Pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (pzpy) and 2-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (dmpzpy) are used as electron-rich ancillary N^N ligands. The complexes have been fully characterized and the single crystal structure of [Ir(2)2(dmpzpy)][PF6]·MeCN has been determined. Depending on the position of the methylsulfonyl group, the complexes are green or blue emitters with vibrationally structured em…
Regioisomerism in cationic sulfonyl-substituted [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)]+ complexes: its influence on photophysical properties and LEC performance
2016
A series of regioisomeric cationic iridium complexes of the type [Ir(C^N)2(bpy)][PF6] (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) is reported. The complexes contain 2-phenylpyridine-based cyclometallating ligands with a methylsulfonyl group in either the 3-, 4- or 5-position of the phenyl ring. All the complexes have been fully characterized, including their crystal structures. In acetonitrile solution, all the compounds are green emitters with emission maxima between 493 and 517 nm. Whereas substitution meta to the Ir-C bond leads to vibrationally structured emission profiles and photoluminescence quantum yields of 74 and 77%, placing a sulfone substituent in a para position results in a broad, featureless em…
Crystal structure ofp-toluenesulfonylmethyl isocyanide
2015
The molecule of the commercially available title compound, C9H9NO2S, has crystallographically imposed mirror symmetry, the mirror plane passing through the isocyanide group and thepara-C atoms, the methyl C atom and the S atom of the methyl 4-tolyl sulfone moiety. In the crystal, C—H...O hydrogen-bond interactions link the molecules into chains running parallel to thebaxis.

Properties and structure of cyanate ester/polysulfone/organoclay nanocomposites
2006
In this paper, a cyanate ester (CE) matrix has been modified with polysulfone and an organic montmorillonite (Nanofil 919). The blend was thermally cured in presence of copper acetylcetonate and nonylphenol. The morphology of the cured materials was investigated by wide angle X-ray, scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques. An intercalate structure of silicate platelets in the cyanate matrix has been obtained. Furthermore, results of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) suggest that CE/PSF/Nanofil 919 nanocomposites have higher thermal stability than the neat resin, increasing the onset decomposition temperature. Flexural strength distributions of modified and neat cyanate matri…
