The Difficult Marriage of Triarylcorroles with Zinc and Nickel Ions.
2022
The coordination chemistry of corrole has witnessed a great improvement in the past few years and its Periodic Table has been widened to be so large that it is compared with that of porphyrins. However, Ni and Zn ions, commonly used with porphyrins for both synthetic and theoretical purposes, are sparsely reported in the case of corroles. Here, we report synthetic protocols for preparing Ni and Zn triarylcorrole complexes. In the case of Zn, the preliminary oxidation of the free base corrole in DMSO to the neutral corrole radical is a necessary step to obtain the coordination of the metal ion, because the direct reaction led to the formation of an open-chain tetrapyrrole. The Ni complex cou…
Stereospezifische Überführung chiraler acyclischer tertiärer Phosphinsulfide in die entsprechenden tertiären Phosphinoxide mit Dimethylsulfoxid (DMSO)
1975
Stereospecific Conversion of Chiral Acyclic Tertiary Phosphine Sulfides into the Corresponding Tertiary Phosphine Oxides by Means of Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) The conversion of chiral acyclic tertiary phosphine sulfides into the corresponding tertiary phosphine oxides by means of DMSO in acidic solution proceeds with complete inversion of configuration at the central phosph…

Solvent-modulation of the structure and dimensionality in lanthanoid-anilato coordination polymers.
2018
We show the key role that the size and shape of the solvent molecules may play in the dimensionality and structure of a series of lanthanoid–chloranilato coordination polymers. We report the synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of six different coordination polymers prepared with Er(III) and chloranilato (C6O4Cl22− = 3,6-dichloro-2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone) and six different solvents: [Er2(C6O4Cl2)3(H2O)6]·10H2O (1), [Er2(C6O4Cl2)3(FMA)6]·4FMA·2H2O (2) (FMA = formamide = NH2CHO), [Er2(C6O4Cl2)3(DMSO)4]·2DMSO·2H2O (3) (DMSO = dimethy sulfoxide = Me2SO), [Er2(C6O4Cl2)3(DMF)6] (4) (DMF = dimethylformamide = Me2NCHO), [Er2(C6O4Cl2)3(DMA)4] (5) (DMA = dimethylacetamide = Me2NC(Me)O) …
Anti-inflammatory activity of berenjenol and related compounds.
2008
Berenjenol ( 1), isolated from OXANDRA cf. XYLOPIOIDES (Annonaceae), was tested on two different experimental models of inflammation. The compound showed anti-inflammatory activity in the test of acute mouse ear edema induced by TPA (54 % inhibition, 1 μmol/ear) as well as in the test of subchronic inflammation induced by repeated application of TPA (57 % inhibition, 7 × 1 μmol/ear). Moreover, while it reduced the expression of both COX-2 (65 % inhibition at 50 μM) and iNOS (80 % inhibition at 50 μM), it was not active against TNF- α and IL-1 β in murine macrophages (RAW 264.7) stimulated with LPS. Structural modification of 1 gave two derivatives, berenjenol acetate ( 2) and 3-oxo-berenjen…
On the chemiluminescence emission of luminol: protic and aprotic solvents and encapsulation to improve the properties in aqueous solution.
2020
Luminol is a popular molecule that is currently gaining further interest due to its potential role for non-invasive cancer treatments. Design of more efficient derivatives in this context would benefit from a clear knowledge on the origin of the distinct intensity and spectroscopic properties in protic and aprotic solvents observed experimentally, which are still not rationalized. By efficiently combining molecular dynamics, quantum methodologies based on density functional theory and multiconfigurational quantum chemistry and hybrid approaches, and developing herein a computational approach for accurately determining "molar negative extinction (or gain) coefficients of emission", we firstl…
Theoretical and experimental NMR studies on muscimol from fly agaric mushroom (Amanita muscaria)
2015
In this article we report results of combined theoretical and experimental NMR studies on muscimol, the bioactive alkaloid from fly agaric mushroom (Amanita muscaria). The assignment of (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra of muscimol in DMSO-d6 was supported by additional two-dimensional heteronuclear correlated spectra (2D NMR) and gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) NMR calculations using density functional theory (DFT). The effect of solvent in theoretical calculations was included via polarized continuum model (PCM) and the hybrid three-parameter B3LYP density functional in combination with 6-311++G(3df,2pd) basis set enabled calculation of reliable structures of non-ionized (neutral) molecu…
Solution structure of R2Sn(IV)-β-N-Acetyl-Neuraminate (R=Me, Bu) complexes in D2O and DMSO-d6: experimental NMR and DFT computational study.
2007
Two diorganotin(IV)-NANA complexes (NANA (1) = beta-N-acetyl-Neuraminic Acid = 5-amino-3,5-dideoxy-D-glycero-beta-D-galactononulosic acid) with formula Me(2)Sn(iv)NANA (2) and Bu(2)Sn(IV)NANA (3) were synthesized and characterized by (1)H, (13)C and (119)Sn NMR spectroscopy, both in D(2)O and DMSO-d(6) solutions. The experimental data in DMSO suggested the monosaccharide bidentate chelation via O1 carboxylate and vicinal O2 alkoxide atoms, which, in D(2)O, can be dynamically extended to a third binding site (O8 atom) of the pendant chain. Coordination at the tin atom is discussed on the basis of experimental NMR data and DFT calculation.
The SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin improves the primary diabetic complications in ZDF rats
2017
Hyperglycemia associated with inflammation and oxidative stress is a major cause of vascular dysfunction and cardiovascular disease in diabetes. Recent data reports that a selective sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i), empagliflozin (Jardiance®), ameliorates glucotoxicity via excretion of excess glucose in urine (glucosuria) and significantly improves cardiovascular mortality in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The overarching hypothesis is that hyperglycemia and glucotoxicity are upstream of all other complications seen in diabetes. The aim of this study was to investigate effects of empagliflozin on glucotoxicity, β-cell function, inflammation, oxidative stress and endothel…
