Critical micellisation density: a SAS structural study of the unimer–aggregate transition of block-copolymers in supercritical CO2

In this paper we report a SANS investigation of micelle formation by fluorocarbon-hydrocarbon block copolymers in supercritical CO2 (scCO2) at 313K. A sharp unimer-micelle transition is obtained due to the tuning of the solvating ability of scCO2 by profiling pressure. At high pressure the copolymer is in a monomeric state with a random coil structure. By lowering the pressure aggregates are formed with the hydrocarbon segments forming the core and the fluorocarbon segments forming the corona of spherical aggregates. Monitoring supercritical fluid extraction by thermal lens spectrometry with pulsed laser excitation

Abstract A dual-beam thermal lens spectrometer (TLS) with a pulse pump–probe coaxial configuration was coupled to commercially available supercritical fluid extraction equipment using a high-pressure flow cell interface. Because of its feasible critical parameters, moderate cost and good thermooptical properties, carbon dioxide was used as supercritical solvent. Supercritical dissolved gas atomization (SDGA) is an atomization process in which a gas at temperatures and pressures above the critical point is used as the atomizing medium. The concept of SDGA has been applied mainly using CO 2 as atomizing gas in various processes developed for the production of fine particles of pharmaceuticals, polymers, and chemical products and for the atomization of fuels. Random walks in dynamic random environments and ancestry under local population regulation

We consider random walks in dynamic random environments, with an environment generated by the time-reversal of a Markov process from the oriented percolation universality class. If the influence of the random medium on the walk is small in space-time regions where the medium is typical, we obtain a law of large numbers and an averaged central limit theorem for the walk via a regeneration construction under suitable coarse-graining. Such random walks occur naturally as spatial embeddings of ancestral lineages in spatial population models with local regulation. We verify that our assumptions hold for logistic branching random walks when the population density is sufficiently high.

Directed random walk on the backbone of an oriented percolation cluster

We consider a directed random walk on the backbone of the infinite cluster generated by supercritical oriented percolation, or equivalently the space-time embedding of the ``ancestral lineage'' of an individual in the stationary discrete-time contact process. We prove a law of large numbers and an annealed central limit theorem (i.e., averaged over the realisations of the cluster) using a regeneration approach. Furthermore, we obtain a quenched central limit theorem (i.e.\ for almost any realisation of the cluster) via an analysis of joint renewals of two independent walks on the same cluster.

Dilute and semi dilute solutions of block copolymers in water, near-critical and super-critical CO2: a small angle scattering study of the monomer–ag…

Abstract Small angle neutron (SANS) and X-ray (SAXS) Scattering measurements on aggregate formation of block copolymers in water and in near-critical and supercritical CO2 are reported here. Time Resolved SAXS (TR-SAXS) has also been performed in the supercritical region. Experiments have been carried out for a series of different thermodynamic conditions, changing the solvent density by profiling the pressure at constant temperature. A sharp transition between monomers dissolved as random coils and micelles characterized by a solvo-philic shell and a solvo-phobic core occurs when the solvent density reaches the critical micellization value. This is easily shown in the case of scCO2.
