Kaluza-Klein origin for the superstring tension

1992

The natural configuration space of a string in a background antisymmetric tensor potential is not loop space, but a principal U(1) bundle over loop space. This allows a Kaluza-Klein--like interpretation of the string tension as momentum along the U(1) fiber, and a similar interpretation is possible for a {ital p}-dimensional object. The higher-dimensional'' action incorporating this momentum as a dynamical variable is given for a {ital p}-dimensional supersymmetric extended object, in a general supergravity background. Its relevance, for a flat background, to classical anomalies'' in the supersymmetry algebra is explained.

BARYOGENESIS IN SUPERGRAVITY INFLATIONARY MODELS

1985

Abstract Realistic N=1 supergravity theories with a gravitino mass of order 1 TeV require a period of inflation to dilute the gravitino abundance. Moreover, if the gravitino is unstable the reheat temperature is bounded to be no greater than O(108 GeV). We show that such models may still have acceptable rates of baryosynthesis and discuss possible mechanisms.

Search for squarks and gluinos in events with jets and missing transverse energy in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

2006

Abstract The results of a search for squarks and gluinos using data from p p ¯ collisions recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider are reported. The topologies analyzed consist of acoplanar-jet and multijet events with large missing transverse energy. No evidence for the production of squarks or gluinos was found in a data sample of 310 pb−1. Lower limits of 325 and 241 GeV were derived at the 95% C.L. on the squark and gluino masses, respectively, within the framework of minimal supergravity with tan β = 3 , A 0 = 0 , and μ 0 .

Search for supersymmetry in final states with jets, missing transverse momentum and one isolated lepton ins=7  TeVpp collisions using1  fb−1of ATLAS …

2012

We present an update of a search for supersymmetry in final states containing jets, missing transverse momentum, and one isolated electron or muon, using 1.04 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data at root s =7 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in the first half of 2011. The analysis is carried out in four distinct signal regions with either three or four jets and variations on the (missing) transverse momentum cuts, resulting in optimized limits for various supersymmetry models. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Limits are set on the visible cross section of new physics within the kinematic requirements of the search. The results are inter…

Dark matter in minimal supergravity with type-II seesaw mechanism

2009

We calculate the relic density of the lightest neutralino in a supersymmetric seesaw type-II (``triplet seesaw'') model with minimal supergravity boundary conditions at the grand unified theory (GUT) scale. The presence of a triplet below the GUT scale, required to explain measured neutrino data in this setup, leads to a characteristic deformation of the sparticle spectrum with respect to the pure minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) expectations, affecting the calculated relic dark matter (DM) density. We discuss how the DM allowed regions in the $({m}_{0},{M}_{1/2})$ plane change as a function of the (type-II) seesaw scale. We also compare the constraints imposed on the models parameter space fo…

Elimination of unitarily nonequivalent vacua in supersymmetric grand unified theories by gravity

1983

Abstract In globally supersymmetric grand unified theories, there may be unitarily nonequivalent vacua which are not present in ordinary theories, reflecting the invariance of the Higgs potential under the complex extension of the gauge group. We show that such vacua are eliminated in the presence of N = 1 supergravity coupling, if local supersymmetry is broken and the costomological constant vanishes.

Search for minimal supergravity in single-electron events with jets and large missing transverse energy inpp¯collisions ats=1.8TeV

2002

We describe a search for evidence of minimal supergravity (MSUGRA) in 92.7 pb(-1) of data collected with the D empty set detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar collider at roots=1.8 TeV. Events with a single electron, four or more jets, and large missing transverse energy were used in this search. The major backgrounds are from W+jets, misidentified multijet, t (t) over bar, and WW production. We observe no excess above the expected number of background events in our data. A new limit in terms of MSUGRA model parameters is obtained.

Supersymmetric mass spectra and the seesaw scale

2011

Supersymmetric mass spectra within two variants of the seesaw mechanism, commonly known as type-II and type-III seesaw, are calculated using full 2-loop RGEs and minimal Supergravity boundary conditions. The type-II seesaw is realized using one pair of 15 and $\bar{15}$ superfields, while the type-III is realized using three copies of $24_M$ superfields. Using published, estimated errors on SUSY mass observables attainable at the LHC and in a combined LHC+ILC analysis, we calculate expected errors for the parameters of the models, most notably the seesaw scale. If SUSY particles are within the reach of the ILC, pure mSugra can be distinguished from mSugra plus type-II or type-III seesaw for…

Probing bilinear R-parity violating supergravity at the LHC

2007

We study the collider phenomenology of bilinear R-parity violating supergravity, the simplest effective model for supersymmetric neutrino masses accounting for the current neutrino oscillation data. At the CERN Large Hadron Collider the center-of-mass energy will be high enough to probe directly these models through the search for the superpartners of the Standard Model (SM) particles. We analyze the impact of R-parity violation on the canonical supersymmetry searches - that is, we examine how the decay of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) via bilinear R-parity violating interactions degrades the average expected missing momentum of the reactions and show how this diminishes the re…
