Experimental Evidence on the Thermal Performance of Opaque Surfaces in Mediterranean Climate

2013

The thermal insulation of buildings, intended as wrap feature which determines the dispersion of heat, the reference parameter is necessary to contain the thermal losses during the winter season. The transmittance of the opaque components, used as an indicator of the energy quality of a casing, together with the overall coefficient of dispersion, represents a proper descriptor of the behavior during the heating season. However, if a strong insulation in winter conditions brings only positive effects, the same cannot be said for the summer conditions. A high value of the insulation in the casing is convenient only when the gains free, either in the form of solar contribution that of endogeno…

Influence of titanium-vanadium alloys on cell morphology: electron microscopy and ESCA studies

2000

Titanium and its alloys provide optimum metallurgical properties for implants. The formation of an oxide layer favours compatibility with the adjacent hard and soft tissues. Research focuses on further optimizing the passive layer, particularly with respect to minimizing metal ion migration into the tissues. The present study concentrates on two alloys (Ti6A14V and Til.5A125V) coated with oxide layers generated by different techniques: thermal oxidation, anodic oxidation and sol-gel treatment. Only thermal oxidation fails to reduce surface and subsurface concentrations of vanadium, whereas other treatments avoid the element in the outermost surface areas of the alloys. Additionally, the the…

VAKUUMWAAGEN Teil 1: Einleitung und Makrowaagen

1997

Balances destined for weighing of goods in vacuum are labeled as vacuum …

Surface modification of luminescent lanthanide phosphate nanorods with cationic "Quat-primer" polymers.

2011

"Quat-primer" polymers bearing cationic groups were investigated as a surface modifier for Tb-doped cerium phosphate green-emitting fluorescent nanorods (NRs). The NRs were synthesized by a microwave process without using any complex agents or ligands and were characterized with different analytical tools such as X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. Poly(ethyleneimine) partially quarternized with glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride was synthesized separately and characterized in detail. (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopic studies revealed that the quaternary ammonium group was covalently attached to the polymer. UV-vis spectroscopy was used to exam…

Comparison of Permeation Measurements and Hybrid Density Functional Calculations on Oxygen Vacancy Transport in Complex Perovskite Oxides

2014

The oxygen vacancy (VO••) formation enthalpy (ΔHF) was determined from the effective activation energies obtained in the permeation measurements on a series of solid solutions La0.98–xSrxCo0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (x = 0.125–0.8) and compared with the results of ab initio calculations at finite temperatures based on the hybrid (PBE0) and GGA+U calculations, as well as previous thermogravimetric experiments. The Mulliken atomic charges, magnetic moments, and the Fe-VO•• and Sr-VO•• distances are analyzed. The strong dependence of formation enthalpy of VO•• on the Fe oxidation state due to variation in Sr and VO•• concentrations is discussed.

Simulation of abrasion–corrosion at high temperatures by in situ pulsed laser spallation of oxide films

1999

Abstract A pulsed Nd:YAG laser combined with a thermogravimetric cell has been used to spall in situ the oxide films grown on a Fe–2.25Cr–1Mo steel at high temperature in oxidizing media. This technique allows to define the oxidation rate of bare metal surfaces, which can be used to simulate the corrosion-dominated regime during slurry–erosion tests.

Synthesis and Characterization of Palladium Nanoparticle/Polypyrrole Composites

2008

In this work, a simple non-template one-step method for the synthesis of 2.0−2.5 nm palladium nanoparticles encapsulated into a polypyrrole shell via direct redox reaction between palladium(II) acetate and pyrrole in acetonitrile medium is described. Palladium nanoparticles are found to be able to self-organize into spherical Pd/PPy composites. The size of the Pd/PPy composite particles and Pd content in the composite depend strongly on the concentration of the palladium salt component. The combination of elemental CHNS and thermogravimetric (TGA) analysis was used to determine a high (∼40 wt %) content of palladium, which is in a good agreement with EDX data. The process of Pd/PPy composit…

Improving the high temperature oxidation resistance of pure titanium by shot-peening treatments

2017

International audience; Shot-peening (SP) treatments have shown their capacity to improve the oxidation resistance of titanium and zirconium thanks to the large compressive stresses and the surface hardening induced by this mechanical process. However, shot-peening treatments can produce a surface chemical deposit, which can modify the high temperature oxidation resistance. Here, we study pure titanium samples shot-peened with different type of balls: tungsten carbide, alumina or glass. The oxidation behavior was studied at 700 °C in dry air by thermo gravimetric analysis for short isotherm oxidation periods up to 100 h. Also, long oxidation tests (3000 h) at 700 °C were performed with an i…

Sepiolite-reinforced epoxy nanocomposites: Thermal, mechanical, and morphological behavior

2010

A bisphenol A-based epoxy resin was modified with pristine sepiolite and an organically surface-modified sepiolite and thermally cured using two different curing agents: an aliphatic and a cycloaromatic diamine. The nanocomposites were characterized by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), rheology, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and electron microscopy. The initial sepiolite–epoxy mixtures show a better dispersion for the sepiolite-modified system that forms a percolation network structure. Mechanical properties have also been determined. The flexural modulus of the epoxy matrix slightly increases by the incorporation of the organophilic sepiolite. The flexural strength of the sepiolite-mo…
