FT-IR investigation of the urea state in lecithin and sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate reversed micelles

2003

Abstract FT-IR spectra of urea/lecithin/CCl4 and urea/sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (NaDEHP)/CCl4 systems as a function of the urea-to-surfactant molar ratio (Rurea) at a fixed surfactant concentration (0.1 mol kg−1) have been recorded at 25 °C. Analysis of the absorption spectra leads the to hypothesis that urea is confined within the hydrophilic micellar core of lecithin and NaDEHP reversed micelles. The encapsulation of urea involves some changes of the urea NH stretching band with respect to that of the pure solid urea, attributable to confinement effects. The stretching modes of the surfactant head group are affected by the presence of urea, indicating specific urea-surfactant hea…

A new selective fluorogenic probe for trivalent cations.

2012

[EN] A new selective chromo-fluorogenic probe for Fe 3+, Cr 3+ and Al 3+ is reported. Detection limits are in the ¿M range and the fluorogenic sensing ability could be observed by the naked eye when illuminated with UV-light. No response is observed with divalent cations. © 2012 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Strong circularly polarized luminescence of an octahedral chromium(iii) complex

2019

The chiral spin-flip luminophore [Cr(ddpd)2]3+ can be resolved into enantiopure material by chiral HPLC. The corresponding enantiomers show very high luminescence dissymmetry factors of up to ∣glum ∣≈ 0.093 in circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) measurements for the "ruby-like" phosphorescence transition 2E/2T1 → 4A2 in the near-IR region around λ ≈ 775 nm.

Halloysite nanotubes-carbon dots hybrids multifunctional nanocarrier with positive cell target ability as a potential non-viral vector for oral gene …

2019

Abstract Hypothesis The use of non-viral vectors for gene therapy is hindered by their lower transfection efficiency and their lacking of self-track ability. Experiments This study aims to investigate the biological properties of halloysite nanotubes-carbon dots hybrid and its potential use as non-viral vector for oral gene therapy. The morphology and the chemical composition of the halloysite hybrid were investigated by means of high angle annular dark field scanning TEM and electron energy loss spectroscopy techniques, respectively. The cytotoxicity and the antioxidant activity were investigated by standard methods (MTS, DPPH and H2O2, respectively) using human cervical cancer HeLa cells …

The dependence of circular dichroism in photoemission on the optical properties of Cs monolayers on Pt(111)

1997

We report on the dependence of dichroic photoemission excited by circularly polarised light on the angle of photon incidence. We measured the difference in the angle-resolved photoemission intensities from Cs 5p semi-core levels excited by photons of opposite helicity, which is known as CDAD. We found that the dependence of the measured differences on the angle of light incidence deviates strongly from the model of CDAD for free atoms, as expected. Using the Fresnel equations and a complex index of refraction, one finds that not only the third component but also the second component of the Stokes vector is responsible for the excitation process. Both Stokes components change sign if the ini…

Existence of metastable intermediate lysozyme conformation highlights the role of alcohols in altering protein stability.

2011

Alcohols have a manifold effect on the conformational and thermodynamic stability of native proteins. Here, we study the effect of moderate concentrations of trifluoroethanol (TFE) on the thermal stability of hen egg-white lysozyme (HEWL), by far-UV circular dichroism and by steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence of intrinsic tryptophans. Our results highlight that TFE affects lysozyme stability by preferential solvation of the protein molecule. Furthermore, we discovered the existence at 20% TFE of an equilibrium partially folded state of lysozyme, intermediate between the native and the unfolded state. A three-state model is therefore used to interpolate the thermal denaturation…

Induced Chirality in Confined Space on Halogen Gold Complexes

2015

The solubilization of HAuCl4 in toluene within optically active reverse micelles and lamellar structures formed by (1R,2S)-Dodecyl(2-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-phenylethyl)- dimethylammonium bromide (DMEB) has allowed us to evidence the complex phenomenology accompanying the confinement of Au salt within these nanostructures. Together with a chloride/bromide exchange process occurring in the first coordination sphere of an Au ion, UV−vis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra reveal the appearance of an induced dichroic signal attributable to Au complexes entrapped in the hydrophilic domain of the DMEB chiral nanostructures. Interestingly, change of the effective oxidation state and coordi…

Dichroism in VUV photoemission from the (0001)-surfaces of ultrathin Gd and Nd films on W(110)

1997

Abstract Ultrathin layers of Gd and Nd epitaxially grown on W(110) have been investigated using linearly and circularly polarised light at the 6.5 m NIM beamline at the BESSY storage ring in Berlin. The high quality of the films was monitored by the sharp and dispersionless surface state just below the Fermi energy. The CDAD (circular dichroism in the angular distribution of photoelectrons) measurements showed strong effects in the surface states as well as in the valence bands. The LMDAD (linear magnetic dichroism in…) from Gd(0001) showed a small, but significant splitting of the surface state. This splitting can be reproduced by numerical one-step calculations based on spin-dependent sur…

Circular dichroism in angular resolved photoemission from pure and Rb-doped C60 and C22H14 layers on platinum and tungsten

1997

Abstract Polycrystalline C60 and Pentacene films grown on W(110) and Pt(111) have been studied in valence band photoemission using circularly polarised synchrotron radiation from BESSY with special emphasis on circular dichroism in photoemission. For thin films of C60, dichroic asymmetries of about 10% occur independent of the temperature and the substrate hinting that the rotation of the topmost layer is hindered even at room temperature. For Pentacene we found asymmetries up to 50% in the region of the σ-electrons. Moreover, we found for this molecule a dichroic asymmetry in normal emission, that is a forbidden geometry. This hints on adsorption with the molecules perpendicularly oriented…
