Novel Digital Technique to Quantify the Area and Volume of Cement Remaining and Enamel Removed after Fixed Multibracket Appliance Therapy Debonding: …

2020

The aim of this study was to construct a novel, repeatable, reproducible, and accurate measurement protocol for the area and volume of the remaining cement after removal of fixed multibracket appliances, the area and volume of remaining cement after cement removal, the area and volume of enamel removed after cement removal, and the volume of cement used to adhere fixed multibracket appliances. A total of 30 brackets were cemented and removed with over 30 extracted teeth embedded into three experimental models of epoxy resin. The models were scanned before and after bracket placement, bracket debonding, and polishing the remaining cement. The brackets were submitted to micro-computed tomogra…

A new tool to improve pedicle screw placement accuracy in navigated spine surgery: A monocentric study

2021

Objective Navigated instrumented spine surgery is burden by a low but significant screw mispositioning risks, respectively, for the 2D imaging system from 15 to 40% and, for the 3D imaging system, ranging from 4.1 to 11.5%. The primary objective of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy of a new "screw-like" tool in order to further decrease pedicle screws mispositioning rate during vertebral navigated spine surgery. Materials and methods Between January and June 2019 an initial case series of 18 patients were enrolled. All patients underwent a pedicle screw fixation, both in thoracic (Th10-Th12) and lumbosacral (L1-S1) spine, using O-arm (Medtronic Navigation, Louisville, Colorado) and…

Treatment of distal intraarticular tibial fractures: A biomechanical evaluation of intramedullary nailing vs. angle-stable plate osteosynthesis

2015

In factures of the distal tibia with simple articular extension, the optimal surgical treatment remains debatable. In clinical practice, minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis and intramedullary nailing are both routinely performed. Comparative biomechanical studies of different types of osteosynthesis of intraarticular distal tibial fractures are missing due to the lack of an established model. The goal of this study was first to establish a biomechanical model and second to investigate, which are the biomechanical advantages of angle-stable plate osteosynthesis and intramedullary nailing of distal intraarticular tibial fractures. Seven 4(th) generation biomechanical composite tibiae feat…

CRT-727 Percutaneous Balloon Atrial Septostomy for Direct Left Heart Decompression in Patients on Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation

2014

Severe myocardial dysfunction and added afterload from the Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) arterial cannula may lead to significant rise in left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic and left atrial (LA) pressures. This may result in ischemia, lower likelihood of ventricular recovery and hence

Treatment of Combined Medial and Lateral Collateral Ligament Insufficiency

2016

The medial and lateral collateral ligament complexes represent primary elbow ligament stabilizers. Injury to these structures may occur because of an elbow dislocation or due to a severe varus or valgus force. Most elbow dislocations are stable once reduced and may be treated conservatively. However, if the elbow remains unstable surgical treatment is recommended. Repair should be anatomical and should restore stability to the elbow in order to permit an early active range of motion. Reconstruction may be required in severe cases and where primary repair is not possible. Depending on the degree of instability, either one or both of the collateral ligament complexes may need to be repaired o…

Anterior dislocation in a total knee arthroplasty: A case report and literature review.

2015

Dislocations of a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are an uncommon injury and only few cases of anterior dislocations have been reported. We report a rare case of anterior dislocation of a 10-year-old posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty in a 74-year-old woman. The patient was successfully treated by close reduction of the dislocation followed by immobilization in full extension with a long leg cast. Because of a high risk of neurovascular complications, a high index of suspicion for vascular injury must be maintained. For this reason, a proper diagnosis is required and immediate reduction is recommended.

Il trattamento chirurgico con vite cannulata e PRP della pseudoartrosi dello scafoide carpale

2013

Nonunion is an important complication of carpal navicular fractures. The aim of this study is to report the medium term results of a reconstruction technique with cannulated screw combined with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in Herbert fractures C (late consolidation), D1 (fibrous union without deformity) and D2 (pseudarthrosis with initial deformity).

Coronary Stent Strut Fractures: Classification, Prevalence and Clinical Associations

2021

Introduction. The frequency, characteristics and clinical implications of Strut fractures (SFs) remain incompletely understood. Methods and results. A total of 185 (160 patients) newer-generation drug-eluting stents (DES) were imaged. SFs were found in 21 DES (11.4%) and were classified in four patterns: one single stacked strut (41%)

The effect of cement fixation on initial micromotion of the femoral component in condylar knee replacement

1992

Four fresh, cadaveric specimens were fitted with total knee replacements and mounted on a knee joint loading and measuring rig. Femoral component micromotion in the sagittal plane was measured with a transducer during flexion and extension of the specimen. Various condylar designs were used without and with cement. Movement followed a characteristic curve pattern and was less with cement fixation particularly for bone of low trabecular strength as determined by bone sample tests for stiffness. Cement fixation appears to be superior to cementless fixation.

Differences in Accuracy and Radiation Dose in Placement of Iliosacral Screws: Comparison between 3D and 2D Fluoroscopy

2022

Percutaneous iliosacral screw fixation is a widely accepted method of stabilizing the posterior pelvic ring. Recently developed tools such as 3D-navigated fluoroscopy and computed navigation seem to prevent a surgeon from conducting screw misplacement. The study aimed to comparatively assess the introduction of sacroiliac screw placement using 2D and 3D fluoroscopy in terms of accuracy and radiation exposure. Iliosacral screws were introduced in 37 patients using 2D (group N1) and in 36 patients using 3D fluoroscopy (group N2) techniques. Overall, 61 and 56 screws were introduced in groups N1 and N2, respectively. Screw placement accuracy was assessed using postoperative computed tomography…
