¡Entonemos del revés!: algunas estrategias para mejorar la entonación emocional de los alumnos de ELE / Let’s modulate our voice inside out!: some st…

2019

Magnetochemistry: An Old Discipline with New Opportunities

2015

Even if the moment is not featured in “Youtube” and the story might have not been exactly as we have been told, we can easily imagine the surprise of the Cretan shepherd named Magnes when he observed for the first time that a black stone in the region of Magnesia (in northern Greece) attracted the iron tip of his crook almost 4000 years ago. Dark Spots in Trade Theory: Early Testing Attempts

2020

The beginnings of the economic theory correspond to philosophers’ attempts to explain why and how do countries trade with each other. Yet even more puzzling was the question how should countries trade? It is no surprise that despite the formidable developments of the theory in the last 200 years plus, there still are dark spots in the economics of trade. Globalization has rendered the issue even murkier. Beside the fact that international trade cannot be insulated from other economic domains, which makes it inadequate for experiments, but even testing itself is cumbersome. Only, evidence on such a complex field as international trade is by no means easy to come by.

I — Theatricality Introduction: Theatricality: A Key Concept in Theatre and Cultural Studies

1995

At the Theatre Historiography Symposium, held during the 1993 Helsinki IFTR/FIRT Conference, a specific term came into circulation which infiltrated and permeated the discussion to such an extent that it appeared to adopt the position and function of a key term in theatre historiography: ‘theatricality’. This was no great surprise, however. For the symposium set out to consider two basic issues: first, to examine the application of analytic strategies from other disciplines to theatre history and, secondly, to identify the distinctive features of theatre history as a single discipline. Both concerns are closely related to the concept of theatricality.

Social Intervention in Traffic Safety

2001

Traffic accidents during the transport of merchandise or passengers on roads and highways have, from the beginning, taken by surprise those who have experienced them themselves or involving persons close to them, as well as those who have witnessed accidents or, in one way or another, helped to alleviate their effects. They say that Albert Einstein commented after the death of a friend: “The worst thing is not only the fact that traffic accidents occur, but also how little we know about why they happen and how little we do to prevent them...”

When a new technological product launching fails: A multi-method approach of facial recognition and E-WOM sentiment analysis

2018

Abstract The dual aim of this research is, firstly, to analyze the physiological and unconscious emotional response of consumers to a new technological product and, secondly, link this emotional response to consumer conscious verbal reports of positive and negative product perceptions. In order to do this, biometrics and self-reported measures of emotional response are combined. On the one hand, a neuromarketing experiment based on the facial recognition of emotions of 10 subjects, when physical attributes and economic information of a technological product are exposed, shows the prevalence of the ambivalent emotion of surprise. On the other hand, a nethnographic qualitative approach of sen…

Transatlantic Trade Wars: The United States and the European Union in Endless Confrontation

2018

Considering two highly interlinked economies of such tremendous size as the United States (US) respectively the European Union (EU), it does not come as a surprise that these circumstances inevitably provide fertile soil for transatlantic trade disputes to thrive. In spite of their decisive contribution to the postwar trade liberalization process, the two giants never quit being protectionist in certain particular domains considered sensitive for one part or the other. Sensitive domains are those in which nations fear competition from abroad, in apprehension of being disruptive to their own economy. Usually sectors that are incapable of withstanding foreign competition, most often agricultu…

2021

Starting from sociologist Anne-Marie Green?s idea of ?common space?, and from Hans Robert Hauss? reception theory, the improvisation workshop is thought to be a way of transforming the practices of reception, in order to modify the nature of the culture of listening of each listener. Four research axis are, then, proposed, from the validation of the personal experience of the participants to the reception of the instant?s surprise as a factor of education, including the research of communicational tools specific to reception of music, capable of captivating the listeners with the original aspects of the unknown musical territories.
