The effect of swinging the arms on muscle activation and production of leg force during ski skating at different skiing speeds

2016

The study investigated the effects of arm swing during leg push-off in V2-alternate/G4 skating on neuromuscular activation and force production by the leg muscles. Nine skilled cross-country skiers performed V2-alternate skating without poles at moderate, high, and maximal speeds, both with free (SWING) and restricted arm swing (NOSWING). Maximal speed was 5% greater in SWING (P<0.01), while neuromuscular activation and produced forces did not differ between techniques. At both moderate and high speed the maximal (2% and 5%, respectively) and average (both 5%) vertical force and associated impulse (10% and 14%) were greater with SWING (all P<0.05). At high speed range of motion and angular …

Individual Region- and Muscle-specific Hamstring Activity at Different Running Speeds

2019

Introduction \ud Hamstring strain injuries typically occur in the proximal biceps femoris long head (BFlh) at high running speeds. Strain magnitude seems to be the primary determinant of strain injury, and may be regulated by muscle activation. In running, BFlh strain is largest in the proximal region, especially at high speeds. However, region-specific activity has not been examined. This study examined the proximal–distal and intermuscular activity of BFlh and semitendinosus (ST) as a function of increasing running speed.\ud \ud Methods \ud Thirteen participants ran at steady speeds of 4.1 (slow), 5.4 (moderate), and 6.8 m·s−1 (fast) on a treadmill. Region- and muscle-specific EMG activit…

Deteriorated stabilization of walking in individuals with spastic cerebral palsy revealed by a simulated tripping perturbation

2014

Abstract. The aim of this study was to make use of a pr eviously introduced method of a simulated tripping perturbation to examine stability of walking in individuals with and with out cerebral palsy. This tripping perturbation is a forward-dynamics analys is, and it works so that in a subjec t-specific muscle-driven simulation of walking, created from experimental gait data, a force is applied to the swin g-foot, and resulting changes in the kinematics are observed. Here, changes in the fore-aft position of the trunk were analyzed. Subjects were 10 children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy and eight un impaired children walking at their self-sel ected speed. Several tripping perturbati…

Ziedu uzskaites sistēma

2017

Swing options in commodity markets: a multidimensional Lévy diffusion model

2013

Author's version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Methods of Operations Research. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00186-013-0452-7 We study valuation of swing options on commodity markets when the commodity prices are driven by multiple factors. The factors are modeled as diffusion processes driven by a multidimensional Lévy process. We set up a valuation model in terms of a dynamic programming problem where the option can be exercised continuously in time. Here, the number of swing rights is given by a total volume constraint. We analyze some general properties of the model and study the solution by analyzing the associated HJB-equation. Furthermo…

Development of 3D Anti-Swing Control for Hydraulic Knuckle Boom Crane

2021

In this paper, 3D anti-swing control for a hydraulic loader crane is presented. The difference between hydraulic and electric cranes are discussed to show the challenges associated with hydraulic actuation. The hanging load dynamics and relevant kinematics of the crane are derived to model the system and create the 3D anti-swing controller. The anti-swing controller generates a set of tool point velocities which are added to the electro-hydraulic motion controller via feedforward. A dynamic simulation model of the crane is made, and the control system is evaluated in simulations with a path controller in actuator space. Simulation results show significant reduction in the load swing angles …

Prolonged exposure to microgravity modifies limb endpoint kinematics during the swing phase of human walking

2002

Many neurophysiological and behavioural studies suggested that the lower limb endpoint might be a centrally represented variable within the gravity reference frame and effectively controlled during the locomotion. This investigation examines the effects of prolonged exposure to microgravity upon lower limb endpoint kinematics. Seven cosmonauts were tested before and the 2nd day after a 6 month orbital mission. The spatio-temporal patterns of the limb extremity (malleolus) were analysed during the swing phase of the walk using a motion analysis system. Paths and velocity profiles of endpoint displacements were computed and compared for both the pre- and post-flight walking sessions. The resu…
