Progression Free Survival, Overall Survival, and Relapse Rate in Endometrioid Ovarian Cancer and Synchronous Endometrial-Ovarian Endometrioid Cancer …

2022

Background and Objectives: We aimed to evaluate Progression Free Survival (PFS), Overall Survival (OS), and relapse rate in women affected by endometrioid ovarian cancer and synchronous endometrial-ovarian endometrioid cancer (SEO-EC). As secondary outcome, we assessed whether systematic pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy could be considered a determinant of relapse rate in this population. Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of women with diagnosis of endometrioid ovarian cancer or SEO-EC between January 2010 to September 2020, and calculated PFS, OS and relapse rate. Results: In almost all the patients (97.6%) who underwent systematic pelvic and para-aortic ly…

Device-Therapie nach akutem Koronarsyndrom

2014

High Degree of Realism in Teaching Percutaneous Coronary Interventions by Combining a Virtual Reality Trainer With a Full Scale Patient Simulator

2008

The virtual reality coronary angiography simulator "CATHI" (Catheter Instruction System, Mannheim, Germany) simulates coronary arteries with implemented vessel lesions in virtual patients. Like similar systems the software model runs on common PC systems, which are linked to the mechanical device for manual training. We combined the advantages of this skill trainer with the near to reality assembly of a cardiac catheterization laboratory (Cath-lab) by connecting it to a full scale simulator (HPS, METI, Sarasota, FL). We present two methods of synchronizing the heartbeat between both simulation devices. Method A-the hardware solution-uses the electrocardiogram-synchronization signal of the H…

La battaglia di Himera nelle Storie di Erodoto e il sincronismo con Salamina

2022

The very short report of the battle of Himera given by Herodotus’ Histories seems to have the primary aim of supporting a widespread tradition among the inhabitants of Sicily (still circulating at the time when the historian lived) about the true reason preventing Gelon from siding with the Hellenic League against Persians: he was impelled to engage in the battle of Himera, which took place the very same day as the sea battle of Salamis. No celebratory intent emerges from the account of Gelon’s and Theron’s victory over the Carthaginians, since Herodotus wants to report all the versions known to him about the explanations given to Gelon’s refusal to join the Hellenic League; there is no roo…

Adaptive Collision Avoidance through Implicit Acknowledgments in WSNs

2008

The large number of nodes, typical of many sensor network deployments, and the well-known hidden terminal problem make collision avoidance an essential goal for the actual employment of WSN technology. Collision avoidance is traditionally dealt with at the MAC Layer and plenty of different solutions have been proposed, which however have encountered limited diffusion because of their incompatibility with commonly available devices. In this paper we propose an approach to collision avoidance which is designed to work over a standard MAC Layer, namely the IEEE 802.15.4 MAC, and is based on application-controlled delays of packet transmission times. The proposed scheme is simple, decentralized …

Signatures of photon and axion-like particle mixing in the gamma-ray burst jet

2011

Photons couple to Axion-Like Particles (ALPs) or more generally to any pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson in the presence of an external electromagnetic field. Mixing between photons and ALPs in the strong magnetic field of a Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) jet during the prompt emission phase can leave observable imprints on the gamma-ray polarization and spectrum. Mixing in the intergalactic medium is not expected to modify these signatures for ALP mass > 10^(-14) eV and/or for < nG magnetic field. We show that the depletion of photons due to conversion to ALPs changes the linear degree of polarization from the values predicted by the synchrotron model of gamma ray emission. We also show that when …

High resolution analysis and differential condensation in RBA-banded human chromosomes.

1981

Human prophase, premetaphase, and mid-metaphase chromosomes are prepared and analyzed using the thymidine cell synchronization technique and R-banding patterns (RBA). Haploid sets with 700–1000 bands can be demonstrated. Sequences of chromosomes of different degrees of condensation are helpful for a better understanding and classification of regions of extended chromosomes. A considerable variation in the condensation of parts of homologous chromosomes is reflected in the variability of the arm ratio. This differential condensation of chromosomes is entirely effected by variation of the degree of condensation in AT rich interbands and can be attributed to the degree of labeling by BrdU.

Epistemic cooperation scripts in online learning environments: Fostering learning by reducing uncertainty in discourse?

2005

Using online learning environments in higher education offers innovative possibilities to support collaborative learning. However, online learning creates new kinds of problems for participants who have not previously worked with each other. One of these problems is uncertainty which occurs when participants do not know each other. According to the uncertainty reduction theory, low uncertainty level increases the amount of discourse and decreases the amount of information seeking. Therefore, uncertainty may influence online discourse and learning. This study investigates the effects of an epistemic cooperation script with respect to the amount of discourse, information seeking and learning …

Laboratory phase‐contrast nanotomography of unstained Bombus terrestris compound eyes

2021

Imaging the visual systems of bumblebees and other pollinating insects may increase understanding of their dependence on specific habitats and how they will be affected by climate change. Current high-resolution imaging methods are either limited to two dimensions (light- and electron microscopy) or have limited access (synchrotron radiation x-ray tomography). For x-ray imaging, heavy metal stains are often used to increase contrast. Here, we present micron-resolution imaging of compound eyes of buff-tailed bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) using a table-top x-ray nanotomography (nano-CT) system. By propagation-based phase-contrast imaging, the use of stains was avoided and the microanatomy co…

Nanocrystallization of amorphous alloys using microwaves:In situtime-resolved synchrotron radiation studies

2009

Important energy and time savings can be achieved with the thermal treatment of materials by replacing conventional heating methods with microwave heating. The nano- crystallization of Co-Fe-W-B amorphous alloy powders under microwave irradiation was followed for the first time by in situ time-resolved synchrotron radiation powder diffraction. It is shown that even a very short exposure to the electromagnetic field (single pulse microwave application) typically of the order of a few seconds is sufficient to obtain the bulk nano- crystalline state. A metastable high-temperature Co-W-B orthorhombic phase forms during the microwave heating, which gradually transforms to the tetragonal Co2B sta…
