A Java 3D Talking Head for a Chatbot

Facial animation is referred to all those systems per- forming the speech synchronization with an animated face model. This kind of systems are called ”Talking Head” or ”Talking Face”. In this paper a Talking Head oriented to the creation of a Chatbot is presented. It requires an in- put query and an answer is generated in form of text. The answer is transduced into a facial animation using a 3D face model whose lips movements are synchronized with the sound produced by a speech synthesis module. Role of the Online Tutor in Establishing Social Presence in Asynchronous Text-Based Collaborative Learning Environments

The main objective of this paper is to provide a better understanding of the online tutor’s role in establishing and maintaining the feeling of social presence among the participants in asynchronous text-based collaborative learning environments. The context of the study is a distributed online course involving groups of participants who do not have a shared history of working together. Modelling systemic price cojumps with Hawkes factor models

Instabilities in the price dynamics of a large number of financial assets are a clear sign of systemic events. By investigating a set of 20 high cap stocks traded at the Italian Stock Exchange, we find that there is a large number of high frequency cojumps. We show that the dynamics of these jumps is described neither by a multivariate Poisson nor by a multivariate Hawkes model. We introduce a Hawkes one factor model which is able to capture simultaneously the time clustering of jumps and the high synchronization of jumps across assets.

Using synchrotrons and XFELs for time-resolved X-ray crystallography and solution scattering experiments on biomolecules

International audience; Time-resolved structural information is key to understand the mechanism of biological processes, such as catalysis and signalling. Recent developments in X-ray sources as well as data collection and analysis methods are making routine time-resolved X-ray crystallography and solution scattering experiments a real possibility for structural biologists. Here we review the information that can be obtained from these techniques and discuss the considerations that must be taken into account when designing a time-resolved experiment.

The effects of precipitates on CdZnTe device performance

A high-intensity X-ray beam collimated down to a 10-micrometer spot size, available at Brookhaven's National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS), was employed to perform X-ray mapping to measure the correlation between microscopic defects (precipitates) and variations in the collected charges in long-drift CdZnTe (CZT) detectors. First, we use X-ray diffraction topography (XDT) measurements at the high-energy beamline and IR microscopy to identify the defects distribution and strains in the bulk of CZT crystals. This paper establishes an exponential H ∞ synchronization method for a class of master and slave neural networks (MSNNs) with mixed time-delays, where the delays comprise different neutral, discrete and distributed time-delays and the class covers the Lipschitz-type nonlinearity case. Alanine films for EPR dosimetry of low-energy (1–30 keV) X-ray photons

Abstract L- α -alanine has aroused considerable interest for use in radiation EPR dosimetry and has been formally accepted as a secondary standard for high-dose (kGy) and transfer dosimetry of high-energy photons and electrons. In this work, we extended the investigation of the energy response of alanine EPR films in the low energy range for X-photons (1–30 keV). Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) measurements were performed on Kodak BioMax alanine films exposed to low-energy X-rays from a Cu-, W- and Mo-targets tube operating at voltages up to 30 kV.
