Room-Temperature X-ray response of cadmium-zinc-Telluride pixel detectors grown by the vertical Bridgman technique

In this work, the spectroscopic performances of new cadmium–zinc–telluride (CZT) pixel detectors recently developed at IMEM-CNR of Parma (Italy) are presented. Sub-millimetre arrays with pixel pitch less than 500 µm, based on boron oxide encapsulated vertical Bridgman grown CZT crystals, were fabricated. Excellent room-temperature performance characterizes the detectors even at high-bias-voltage operation (9000 V cm−1), with energy resolutions (FWHM) of 4% (0.9 keV), 1.7% (1 keV) and 1.3% (1.6 keV) at 22.1, 59.5 and 122.1 keV, respectively. On the use of grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) in the morphological study of ion-implanted materials.

Grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering has become a widely used technique for the morphological analysis of surface systems. Here it is show how this technique can be applied to a buried system, like metallic clusters in glass obtained by ion implantation. The optimization of the data-collection geometry is described as well as the details of the quantitative data analysis. An experimental example on Cu + Au-implanted glasses shows the potentiality of the technique.
Optical properties of oxygen-deficiency related centers in amorphous SiO 2 investigated by synchrotron radiation

We report an investigation of the photoluminescence activity at 4.4 v eV in g -irradiated silica under UV and vacuum-UV excitation by synchrotron radiation. Our results evidence two iso-energetic contributions which can be related to two oxygen-deficient centers variants: ODC(I) and ODC(II). The first, excited within the 7.6 v eV absorption, is detected only at low temperature and has a lifetime of about 2 v ns. The second exhibits two excitation maxima peaked at 5.0 and 6.8 v eV, its amplitude decreases by a factor 2 on increasing the temperature whereas its lifetime has a value of about 4 v ns. X-ray thermal-diffuse-scattering study of soft modes in paraelectricBaTiO3

Anomalous x-ray thermal diffuse scattering (TDS) from the paraelectric ${\mathrm{BaTiO}}_{3}$ has been measured as a function of temperature using synchrotron radiation. Sheets of intensities that were previously reported have been confirmed. The origin of the observed TDS intensities is attributed to the soft on-(100) TA modes and overdamped [010${]}_{\mathrm{TO}}$ mode for reduced wave vector qg0.25 and 0.25, respectively. In agreement with the previous neutron inelastic scattering experiment, our results support the notion of the one-dimensionally correlated optic motion of atoms.
Inclusive Pion Double Charge Exchange on Light Nuclei above 0.5 GeV

Inclusive double charge exchange (DCX) reaction A(π −, π +) X on 6Li and 16O was for the first time measured at incident kinetic energy T 0 = 1.1 GeV ( ≈ 5°) for outgoing particle momentum region where additional pion production is kinematically forbidden. The experiment was performed at secondary π − beam of the ITEP proton synchrotron using the 3m magnet spectrometer. The measured double differential cross section at 1.1 GeV together with our previous results at 0.6 and 0.75 GeV [1] and with the lower energy data [2] and [3] shows rather slow decrease with energy. Collective effects inνν¯synchrotron radiation from neutron stars

We have considered the collective effects in $\ensuremath{\nu}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}$ synchrotron radiation from an ultrarelativistic degenerate electron gas in neutron stars with strong magnetic fields. For this problem we apply a calculation method which explicitly makes use of the fact that the radiating electron moves semiclassically, but takes into account the interaction among particles in a quantum way. First we apply this method to calculate $\ensuremath{\nu}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}$ synchrotron radiation by an ultrarelativistic electron in vacuum and we compare this result with that obtained previously by other techniques. Plasma effects on neutrino-antineutrino synchrotron radiation in dense matter

Abstract We consider plasma effects on ν ν synchroton radiation from ultrarelativistic, degenerate electrons in neutron stars with strong magnetic fields. Under typical conditions for such stars, a semiclassical calculation can be performed, in which electrons are considered to move along classical paths. We show that collective effects in the plasma lead to an essential enhancement (about three times) of the vector weak-current contributions to neutrino pair emissivity.
