Different structural destinations: comparing reactions of [CuBr2(3-Brpy)2] crystals with HBr and HCl gas

Reaction of green crystalline solid trans-[CuBr2(3-Brpy)2] 1 (3-Brpy = 3-bromopyridine) with HBr (aq) vapour yields brown crystalline salt (3-BrpyH)2[CuBr4] 2 with quantitative conversion. Notably 2 adopts a different crystal structure to the three mutually isostructural compounds (3-XpyH)2[CuCl4] (X = Cl, Br) and (3-BrpyH)2[CuBr2Cl2] which result from reaction with HCl. Crystalline product 2 has been characterised by X-ray powder diffraction and its conversion back to 1 at 370–400 K has been followed in situ by synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction. Multispectral autoflourescence detection of skin neoplasia using steady-state techniques

In the current study were used excitation-emission matrices (EEMs) and synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy (SFS) steady-state techniques in a broad spectral regions (excitation at 220-500 nm and emission at 280-850 nm) to achieve the whole set of endogenous fluorophores, existed in normal and neoplastic cutaneous tissues. Several types of benign, dysplastic and malignant types of skin lesions were investigated ex vivo using both EEM and SFS modalities, namely the basal cell papilloma and carcinoma, pigmented nevi, dysplastic nevi, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. Characterization of oriented protein-ceramic and protein-polymer-composites for cartilage tissue engineering using synchrotron μ-CT

Abstract In this paper we report on the synthesis of three different gelatine based scaffold materials for the reconstruction of articular cartilage defects. The first scaffold design is based on an unmodified, oriented gelatine network, while the second design further comprises an attached inorganic hydroxyapatite layer and the third design includes poly(l-lactide) microspheres as a model material for future drug-release applications. Nonverbal synchrony in couple therapy linked to clients’ well-being and the therapeutic alliance

Nonverbal synchrony between individuals has a robust relation to the positive aspects of relationships. In psychotherapy, where talking is the cure, nonverbal synchrony has been related to a positive outcome of therapy and to a stronger therapeutic alliance between therapist and client in dyadic settings. Reproducibility of Rolandic beta rhythm modulation in MEG and EEG

The Rolandic beta rhythm, at ∼20 Hz, is generated in the somatosensory and motor cortices and is modulated by motor activity and sensory stimuli, causing a short lasting suppression that is followed by a rebound of the beta rhythm. The rebound reflects inhibitory changes in the primary sensorimotor (SMI) cortex, and thus it has been used as a biomarker to follow the recovery of patients with acute stroke. The longitudinal stability of beta rhythm modulation is a prerequisite for its use in long-term follow-ups. Group synchronization of coordinated movements in a cross-cultural choir workshop

Group synchronisation in choir performance was studied using motion capture. The choir consisted of South-African experts and Finnish novices. 4+4 participants’ movements were recorded during a performance of a traditional song and choreography. The aim of the study was to: 1) describe possible differences in movement implementation between the two groups; 2) investigate synchronicity between all participants and within and between each of the two groups; 3) visualise the dynamics of interpersonal influence.
