Synchronization of Two Photoelastic Light Modulators to Obtain Müeller Matrix

2013

We report a method for the temporal synchronization of two photoelastic light modulators. For synchronizing, we used the transistor-transistor logic output signals from each modulator, which contain the information on the light polarization. These signals were introduced in a phase-detector circuit, which provided the phase difference value between both modulators. Three optical devices were used to test the synchronization method proposed: a polarizer, a half-wave, and a quarter-wave retarder plate. The value of each of the elements of the Mueller matrix for these devices was obtained using the method of the 36 measurements. The results show a high correlation between the theoretical and e…

Hydrodynamic synchronization of pairs of puller type magnetotactic bacteria in a high frequency rotating magnetic field.

2019

Ensembles of magnetotactic bacteria are known to interact hydrodynamically and form swarms under the influence of external magnetic fields. We describe the synchronization of puller type magnetotactic bacteria in a rotating magnetic field by representing the bacteria as hydrodynamic force dipoles. Numerical simulations show that at moderate values of the hydrodynamic interaction parameter large ensembles of asynchronously rotating bacteria randomly eject propagating doublets of synchronized bacteria. We quantitatively analyze the dynamics of the doublets and show that an important role in the formation of these propagating structures is played by the parameters characterizing the possible t…

Star network synchronization led by strong coupling-induced frequency squeezing

2017

We consider a star network consisting of N oscillators coupled to a central one which in turn is coupled to an infinite set of oscillators (reservoir), which makes it leaking. Two of the N + 1 normal modes are dissipating, while the remaining N - 1 lie in a frequency range which is more and more squeezed as the coupling strengths increase, which realizes synchronization of the single parts of the system.

Switching synchronization in one-dimensional memristive networks: An exact solution.

2017

We study a switching synchronization phenomenon taking place in one-dimensional memristive networks when the memristors switch from the high- to low-resistance state. It is assumed that the distributions of threshold voltages and switching rates of memristors are arbitrary. Using the Laplace transform, a set of nonlinear equations describing the memristors dynamics is solved exactly, without any approximations. The time dependencies of memristances are found, and it is shown that the voltage falls across memristors are proportional to their threshold voltages. A compact expression for the network switching time is derived.

Intermittent and passivity based control strategies for a hyperchaotic system

2013

In this paper a four-dimensional hyperchaotic system with only one equilibrium is consid- ered and it is shown how the control and the synchronization of this system can be realized via two different control techniques. Firstly, we propose a periodically intermittent con- troller to stabilize the system states to the equilibrium and to achieve the projective syn- chronization of the system both in its periodic and hyperchaotic regime. Then, based on the stability properties of a passive system, we design a linear passive controller, which only requires the knowledge of the system output, to drive the system trajectories asymptoti- cally to the origin. Using the same passivity-based method, …

Design of Low-Cost Noise Measurement Sensor Network: Sensor Function Design

2010

In this paper, we report the sensor function design and implementation of a wireless sensor network application for measuring environmental acoustic noise. The system is built on ATmega128 and CC2420 platform. The protocol stack is based on CiNet stack with a global synchronization scheme and supports multi-hop communications. Strict filtering function specified by ITU-R 468 (namely A-weighting) is followed. Both the indoor and outdoor test results were compared with standard sound level meters (CESVA SC-20c and Pulsar94) and showed a less than ±2dB error in both short-term and longterm measurement. Power consumption has been measured that a single AA-type battery can sustain the applicatio…

Device Therapy for Rate Control: Pacing, Resynchronisation and AV Node Ablation

2017

Atrioventricular node ablation (AVNA) is generally reserved for patients whose atrial fibrillation (AF) is refractory all other therapeutic options, since the recipients will often become pacemaker dependent. In such patients, this approach may prove particularly useful, especially if a tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy is suspected. Historically, an "ablate and pace" approach has involved AVNA and right ventricular pacing, with or without an atrial lead. There is also an evolving role for atrioventricular node ablation in patients with AF who require cardiac resynchronisation therapy for treatment of systolic heart failure. A mortality benefit over pharmacotherapy has been demonstrated in…

Quantum synchronisation and clustering in chiral networks

2022

We study the emergence of synchronisation in a chiral network of harmonic oscillators. The network consists of a set of locally incoherently pumped harmonic oscillators coupled pairwise in cascade with travelling field modes. Such cascaded coupling leads to feedback-less dissipative interaction between the harmonic oscillators of the pair which can be described in terms of an effective pairwise hamiltonian a collective pairwise decay. The network is described mathematically in terms of a directed graph. By analysing geometries of increasing complexity we show how the onset of synchronisation depends strongly on the network topology, with the emergence of synchronised communities in the case…
