Stochastic Learning-Based Estimation Methods for Pattern Recognition and Its Application to Topic Detection and Tracking
2008
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2008 – Universitetet i Agder, Grimstad Every Pattern Recognition (PR) problem involves a training and a testing phase. In the training phase, the system is presented with samples, using which the distribution (also called the classconditional distribution), of the features, is estimated. Traditional PR systems assume that the class-conditional distributions are stationary, and thus that they do not change with time. Recently Oommen and his co-authors have presented a strategy by which the parameters of a binomial/- multinomial distribution can be estimated when the distribution is non-stationary. In this thesis, we propose a selection…
Mutual Backup System
2007
A Generic Model of Project Management with Dynaplan smia
2008
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2008 – Universitetet i Agder, Grimstad Projects are hard to be managed due to the reason of complexity, non -linear relationship and high dynamic. System dynamics has been proven a powerful and efficient way to manage projects. In this research, a generic system dynamics model applying to project management has been made. Through studying the model, the system behaviours have been analyzed and policies to deal with the problems of project management have been established. In addition, an object-oriented feature has been added into the model. The attempt is new to system dynamics modelling, and the outcome is satisfying since it makes …
A generic model of project management with Vensim
2008
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2008 – Universitetet i Agder, Grimstad Large projects without good management will often cause cost and deadline overruns, missing the project scope and insufficient quality. The construction of the channel tunnel which link between England and France was budgeted at $7 billion, but it entered service in the second half of 1994 with a price tag of $13 billion. The Disneyland in Paris initially planned to cost $2.25 billion in the project, but finally cost $4 billion. Some projects are even never finished, typically software projects System dynamics has proven to be an effective methodology to explain the reasons of project failure and…
Process Improvement Solution for Mobile Platform Customer SW Development
2008
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2008 – Universitetet i Agder, Grimstad Time to market is becoming an increasingly important topic in software industry. In this trend, handling customer change requests is of a paramount importance. In the current thesis, we investigate reducing the lead time of handling customer requests at EMP Grimstad. Problems were identified and an extensive solution that covers all the aspects of these problems are presented. An experience was conducted and the first results are promising.
Optimization of a hot-cavity type resonant ionization laser ion source
2015
TuePS05; International audience; Resonant Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) is nowadays an important technique in many RadioactiveIon Beam (RIB) facilities for its reliability and ability to ionize efficiently and element selectively.Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds (GANIL) Ion Source using Electron Laser Excitation(GISELE) is an off-line test bench for RILIS developed to study a fully operational resonant laserion source at GANIL facility. The ion source body has been designed as a modular system toinvestigate different experimental approaches by varying the design parameters, to develop the futureon-line laser ion source. The aim of this project is to determine the best technic…
Release of naltrexone on buccal mucosa: Permeation studies, histological aspects and matrix system design
2007
Transbuccal drug delivery has got several well-known advantages especially with respect to peroral way. Since a major limitation in buccal drug delivery could be the low permeability of the epithelium, the aptitude of NLX to penetrate the mucosal barrier was assessed. Ex vivo permeation across porcine buccal mucosa 800 microm thick was investigated using Franz type diffusion cells and compared with in vitro data previously obtained by reconstituted human oral epithelium 100 microm thick. Both fluxes (Js) and permeability coefficients (K(p)) are in accordance, using either buffer solution simulating saliva or natural human saliva. Permeation was evaluated also in presence of chemical enhance…
Crowded comparison operators for constraints handling in NSGA-II for optimal design of the compensation system in electrical distribution networks
2006
This paper proposes an improvement of an efficient multiobjective optimization algorithm, Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II, NSGA-II, that has been here applied to solve the problem of optimal capacitors placement in distribution systems. The studied improvement involves the Crowded Comparison Operator and modifies it in order to handle several constraints. The problem of optimal location and sizing of capacitor banks for losses reduction and voltage profile flattening in medium voltage (MV) automated distribution systems is a difficult combinatorial constrained optimization problem which is deeply studied in literature. In this paper, the efficiency of the proposed Crowded Compari…
Supporting public sector management through simulation-based methods: a dynamic performance management approach
2018
AbstractThough it draws a number of precursors, simulation-based techniques applied to traditional performance management frameworks constitute a novel approach to support public sector institutions in framing organizational performance dynamics and, as a result, improving public service delivery. This paper aims at contributing to the improvement of the outcomes achievable from the use of traditional performance management systems in the public sector by combining them with a simulation-based method named System Dynamics modeling. Such an approach is called Dynamic Performance Management.
OntoFrame
2009
A large number of strategies, approaches, meta models, techniques and procedures have been suggested to support method engineering (ME). Most of these artifacts, here called the ME artifacts, have been constructed, in an inductive manner, synthesizing ME practice and existing ISD methods without any theory-driven conceptual foundation. Also those ME artifacts which have some conceptual groundwork have been anchored on foundations that only partly cover ME. This chapter presents an ontological framework, called OntoFrame, which can be used as a coherent conceptual foundation for the construction, analysis and comparison of ME artifacts. Due to its largeness, the authors here describe its mod…
