Genome-based analyses reveal a synonymy among Halorubrum distributum Zvyagintseva and Tarasov 1989; Oren and Ventosa 1996, Halorubrum terrestre Vento…
2020
A comparative taxonomic study of Halorubrum distributum , Halorubrum terrestre , Halorubrum arcis and Halorubrum litoreum was carried out using different approaches, 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA), phylogenomic analysis based on the comparison of the core genome, orthologous average nucleotide identity (OrthoANI), Genome-to-Genome Distance Calculator (GGDC), synteny plots and polar lipid profile (PLP). The MLSA study, using the five concatenated housekeeping genes atpB, EF-2, glnA, ppsA and rpoB′, and the phylogenomic analysis based on 1347 core translated gene sequences obtained from their genomes showed that Halorubrum distributum JCM 9100T, Halorubru…
The bryophyte flora of Lågskär - An isolated island in the Baltic Sea
2014
This study reports the bryophyte flora of Lågskär, an isolated lighthouse island in the Åland province of Finland. A total of 81 bryophyte species were found on Lågskär, including 74 moss species and seven liverwort species. Syntrichia ruraliformis is reported for the first time in Finland, whereas Ceratodon conicus was believed to be extinct in Finland and Brachythecium turgidum was considered regionally extinct from southern Finland. peerReviewed

Micromeria Bentham (1829: sub t. 1282) (Lamiaceae) is a monophyletic and taxonomically intricate genus, represented by nearly 70 species. These are distributed from the Macaronesian-Mediterranean region to southern Africa, India, and China (Morales 1991b, Govaerts 1999, Harley et al. 2004, Bräuchler et al. 2005, 2008; Puppo & Meimberg 2015, Puppo et al. 2014, 2015).
Considerations Concerning a Methodology for Musical Robotics and Human-Robot Interaction
2009
Robot technology is increasingly employed in artistic (musical) applications and as modeling tool for the investigation of general cognitive abilities and music related behavior in particular. Apart from the specifications of required system behavior and technological aspects of system design/implementation, problems occur concerning the evaluation of the systems. In recent approaches, techniques such as collecting informal reports, perceptual tests, video-based observational studies, or rating scales have been employed. Questions arise, however, as to the reliability and validity of these measures, and the lack of standardization diminishes the comparability of different studies. To attack…
New and little known species of the genus Parapholidoptera Maran (Insecta, Orthoptera)
2009
Material of species of the genus Parapholidoptera Maran is presented. New records of P. noxia (Ramme) are reported from Georgia, P. georgiae sp. n. from Georgia and P. kalashiani sp. n. from Armenia are described. P. syriaca is newly reported from Lebanon. The reporting of study and population characteristics in degenerative cervical myelopathy: A systematic review
2017
OBJECT: Degenerative cervical myelopathy [DCM] is a disabling and increasingly prevalent condition. Variable reporting in interventional trials of study design and sample characteristics limits the interpretation of pooled outcomes. This is pertinent in DCM where baseline characteristics are known to influence outcome. The present study aims to assess the reporting of the study design and baseline characteristics in DCM as the premise for the development of a standardised reporting set. METHODS: A systematic review of MEDLINE and EMBASE databases, registered with PROSPERO (CRD42015025497) was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Full text articles in English, with >50 patients (p…
Corrigendum: Effectiveness of interventions to prevent pre-frailty and frailty progression in older adults: a systematic review.
2018
ABSTRACT Objective: To summarize the best available evidence regarding the effectiveness of interventions for preventing frailty progression in older adults. Introduction: Frailty is an age-related state of decreased physiological reserves characterized by an increased risk of poor clinical outcomes. Evidence supporting the malleability of frailty, its prevention and treatment, has been presented. Inclusion criteria: The review considered studies on older adults aged 65 and over, explicitly identified as pre-frail or frail, who had been undergoing interventions focusing on the prevention of frailty progression. Participants selected on the basis of specific illness or with a terminal diagno…
Do Exchange-Rate Regimes Matter for Monetary-Policy Autonomy? The Experiences of 11 Small, Open European Economies in the 1980s and 1990s
2003
We investigate monetary-policy autonomy under different exchange-rate regimes in small, open European economies during the 1980s and 1990s. We find no systematic difference in the degree of nominal monetary-policy autonomy enjoyed by those countries that pursue flexible exchange-rate regimes as compared to those that have kept their exchange rates fixed. Our interpretation of the results is that over the medium and long term following an 'independent' target for monetary policy, which does not deviate much from the targets of those countries to which one is closely financially integrated, is as constraining as locking the exchange rate to some particular level.
Comparative study of several programs used in the potentiometric evaluation of equilibrium constants including an error sensitivity analysis
1989
Abstract The programs MINIQUAD, MINIPOT, SUPERQUAD and PHCONST are applied to the evaluation of the protonation constants of several hypothetical polyprotic substances using simulated titrations, and the precision and accuracy of the results are discussed and compared. When statistical weights are used the results are very similar, the accuracy being better with PHCONST. Error sensitivity analysis was used as a means of establishing the influence of a systematic error of an experimental variable on the accuracy of the determination. An algorithm for the accurate calculation of error sensitivities is proposed and checked. Error sensitivities can be used to make a choice between the various m…
The generalized H-point standard-additions method to determine analytes present in two different chemical forms in unknown matrix samples. Part I. Ge…
2000
This paper shows how the generalized H-point standard-additions method (GHPSAM) can be used to obtain the total concentration or concentrations of different chemical forms of an analyte when the matrix of the sample is completely unknown. The spectral regions where the interferent behaviour can be considered as linear are found and the analyte concentration free from bias error is estimated. This paper includes the already published features of the GHPSAM and a new modification of this method which allows the simultaneous determination of two chemical forms of an analyte in a sample.
