Recent studies suggest that exercise alters the gut microbiome. We determined whether six-weeks endurance exercise, without changing diet, affected the gut metagenome and systemic metabolites of overweight women. Previously sedentary overweight women (n = 19) underwent a six-weeks endurance exercise intervention, but two were excluded due to antibiotic therapy. The gut microbiota composition and functions were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and metagenomics. This study was designed to describe and evaluate the eventual prodromic role of the orofacial phenomena encountered in patients suffering from systemic sclerosis. Phenomena preceding the diagnosis and events that occured at the onset of systemic sclerosis were considered. Sclerodermic patients were monitored to implement a secondary preventive plan for controlling oral injuries caused by developing systemic sclerosis.

This article brings together two concepts, ‘phantom fat’ and ‘liminal fat’, which both aim to grasp how fat in contemporary culture becomes a kind of material immateriality, corporeality in suspension. Comparing the spheres of representation and experience, we examine the challenges and usefulness of these concepts, and feminist fat studies perspectives more broadly, to feminist scholarship on the body.
