Improvements in Rational Design Strategies of Inulin Derivative Polycation for siRNA Delivery.
2016
The advances of short interfering RNA (siRNA)-mediated therapy provide a powerful option for the treatment of many diseases, including cancer, by silencing the expression of targeted genes involved in the progression of the pathology. On this regard, a new pH-responsive polycation derived from inulin, Inulin-g-imidazole-g-diethylenetriamine (INU-IMI-DETA), was designed and employed to produce INU-IMI-DETA/siRNA "Inulin COmplex Nanoaggregates" (ICONs). The experimental results showed that INU-IMI-DETA exhibited strong cationic characteristics and high solubility in the pH range 3-5 and self-aggregation triggered by pH increase and physiological salt concentration. INU-IMI-DETA showed as well…

Enhanced chain dynamics in loop-sorting-systems by means of layout optimization and a kinematic model of the polygon action
2012
Published version of an article in the journal: Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00158-011-0743-7 Poor dynamics owing to polygon action is a known concern in mechanical applications of closed articulated chains. In this paper a kinematic model of the polygon action in large chains of loop-sorting-systems is proposed. Through optimization techniques the chain dynamics is improved by minimizing the polygon action using a parametric model of the track layout as design variables. Three formulations of the kinematic polygon action are tested on an average sized planer tracks layout to find a superior model. Verificati…
Amperometric Biosensor and Front-End Electronics for Remote Glucose Monitoring by Crosslinked PEDOT-Glucose Oxidase
2018
Focusing on the interplay between interface chemistry, electrochemistry, and integrated electronics, we show a novel low-cost and flexible biosensing platform for continuous glucose monitoring. The amperometric biosensing system features a planar three-electrode structure on a plastic substrate, and a wireless near-field communication-powered electronic system performing sensor analog front-end, A/D conversion, digital control, and display tasks. The working electrode is made of electropolymerized poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) film onto a polyethylene terephthalate/gold electrode followed by immobilization of cross-linked glucose oxidase by glutaraldehyde. The advantages offered by such…
Preparation of tungstophosphoric acid/cerium-doped NH2-UiO-66 Z-scheme photocatalyst: a new candidate for green photo-oxidation of dibenzothiophene a…
2021
International audience; The goal of this study was to introduce an effective visible-light induced photocatalytic system with a good ability for photocatalytic oxidative desulfurization (PODS) and denitrogenation (PODN) using molecular oxygen (O2) as an oxidant. In this regard, tungestophosphoric acid (PW12) was supported onto cerium-doped NH2-UiO-66 (PW12/Ce-NUiO-66) and employed for the photo-oxidation of dibenzothiophene (DBT) and quinoline (Qu). Herein, using cerium (Ce) as a “mediator” facilitated the separation of charge carriers, while NH2-UiO-66 remarkably enhanced the surface area with plentiful adsorption sites and shifted the adsorption edge of PW12to the visible region. The sum …
Inside Cover: Hydrogen-Bonded Open-Framework with Pyridyl-Decorated Channels: Straightforward Preparation and Insight into Its Affinity for Acidic Mo…
2017
International audience; A hydrogen-bonded open framework with pores decorated by pyridyl groups was constructed by off-charge-stoichiometry assembly of protonated tetrakis(4-pyridyloxymethyl)methane and [Al(oxalate)(3)](3-), which are the H-bond donor and acceptor of ionic H-bond interactions, respectively. This supramolecular porous architecture (SPA-2) has 1nm-large pores interconnected in 3D with large solvent-accessible void (53%). It demonstrated remarkable affinity for acidic organic molecules in solution, which was investigated by means of various carboxylic acids including larger drug molecules. Competing sorption between acetic acid and its halogenated homologues evidenced good sel…
External Developmental Assets and Positive Identity Among Emerging Adults in Norway, Romania, Slovenia, and Turkey
2021
The present study adopts The Developmental Assets and Positive Youth Development (PYD) perspectives which (in contrast to the deficit-based approaches which highlight risks and deficit in youth development) claim that young people have potencies to achieve optimal development if supported by their social environment. Extant research indicates that developmental assets are linked with a variety of thriving indicators. The present research aimed to contribute to the PYD research by examining the external developmental assets (support, empowerment, and boundaries and expectations) emerging adults (N= 2055; age range = 18–28) perceived in their social environment and the level of their positive…
Two positive solutions for a nonlinear parameter-depending algebraic system
2021
The existence of two positive solutions for a nonlinear parameter-depending algebraic system is investigated. The main tools are a finite dimensional version of a two critical point theorem and a recent weak-strong discrete maximum principle.
An interface protection system with power line communication for distributed generators remote control
2014
The aim of this work is to present a narrow band power line communication (NB-PLC) interface protection system (IPS) for distributed generators (DGs); it has been developed according to the current standard CEI 0-21 and the requirements for smart grid applications. For such applications, the new IPSs have to implement new intelligent functions such as remote monitoring and control of DGs and Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) inverters, not only in terms of disconnection but also of voltage regulation and power modulation by the utility control. The main feature of the developed IPS is the ability to interact with both the grid and the DG's and ESS's inverters. In fact, it can communicate with t…
Innovative Solutions for the Integration of Renewable Energies on Tunisian and Sicilian Electrical Grids
2022
The rapid spread of distributed generation from renewable energy sources, combined with their unpredictable behavior, requires the continuous monitoring and control by the Distribution System Operator, in order to guarantee the stability and efficiency of the distribution network. Thus, in this paper a new measurement and communication architecture is proposed, which foresees the use of innovative devices and different technology-oriented solutions, even redundant ones, which allows the transition from passive to active electricity distribution network, with minimal structural changes. The architecture has been developed in the framework of the SInERT project (Italy-Tunisia cross-border coo…
