Symplectic Applicability of Lagrangian Surfaces

2009

We develop an approach to affine symplectic invariant geometry of Lagrangian surfaces by the method of moving frames. The fundamental invariants of elliptic Lagrangian immersions in affine symplectic four-space are derived together with their integrability equa- tions. The invariant setup is applied to discuss the question of symplectic applicability for elliptic Lagrangian immersions. Explicit examples are considered.

Blow-up of the non-equivariant 2+1 dimensional wave map

2014

It has been known for a long time that the equivariant 2+1 wave map into the 2-sphere blows up if the initial data are chosen appropriately. Here, we present numerical evidence for the stability of the blow-up phenomenon under explicit violations of equivariance.

A geo-statistical predictive approach to the Habitat mapping of Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems along the northern Sicily inner continental shelf (south…

2016

The main aim of this work is to statistically predict the distribution of Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs) along the continental shelf regions of the northern Sicilian margin (southern Mediterranean). The considered habitats, already mapped in the area on a qualitative base, are the Posidonia oceanica and Cymodocea nodosa seagrasses and the Coralligenous biocenosis. Posidonia oceanica and Coralligenous are considered as VMEs owing to their value as environmental indicators and biodiversity hotspots in coastal marine areas. For this reason, several actions were aimed in recent years to their complete characterization and mapping. The study area is located in the continental shelf of the n…

Redundant Picard–Fuchs System for Abelian Integrals

2001

We derive an explicit system of Picard-Fuchs differential equations satisfied by Abelian integrals of monomial forms and majorize its coefficients. A peculiar feature of this construction is that the system admitting such explicit majorants, appears only in dimension approximately two times greater than the standard Picard-Fuchs system. The result is used to obtain a partial solution to the tangential Hilbert 16th problem. We establish upper bounds for the number of zeros of arbitrary Abelian integrals on a positive distance from the critical locus. Under the additional assumption that the critical values of the Hamiltonian are distant from each other (after a proper normalization), we were…

On the geometric structure of the class of planar quadratic differential systems

2002

In this work we are interested in the global theory of planar quadratic differential systems and more precisely in the geometry of this whole class. We want to clarify some results and methods such as the isocline method or the role of rotation parameters. To this end, we recall how to associate a pencil of isoclines to each quadratic differential equation. We discuss the parameterization of the space of regular pencils of isoclines by the space of its multiple base points and the equivariant action of the affine group on the fibration of the space of regular quadratic differential equations over the space of regular pencils of isoclines. This fibration is principal, with a projective group…

Multivariable non-invasive association of isocitrate dehydrogenase mutational status in World Health Organization grade II and III gliomas with advan…

2020

Aim To investigate multivariable analyses for noninvasive association of the isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutational status in grade II and III gliomas including evaluation of T2 mapping-sequences. Methods Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations with histopathologically proven World Health Organization grade II and III gliomas were retrospectively enrolled. Multivariate receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analyses to associate IDH mutational status were performed containing quantitative T2 mapping analyses and qualitative characteristics (sex, age, localization, heterogeneity, oedema, necrosis and diameter). Relaxation times were calculated pixelwise by means of standardized RO…

T2 mapping of the peritumoral infiltration zone of glioblastoma and anaplastic astrocytoma.

2021

Purpose To characterise peritumoral zones in glioblastoma and anaplastic astrocytoma evaluating T2 values using T2 mapping sequences. Materials and methods In this study, 41 patients with histopathologically confirmed World Health Organization high grade gliomas and preoperative magnetic resonance imaging examinations were retrospectively identified and enrolled. High grade gliomas were differentiated: (a) by grade, glioblastoma versus anaplastic astrocytoma; and (b) by isocitrate dehydrogenase mutational state, mutated versus wildtype. T2 map relaxation times were assessed from the tumour centre to peritumoral zones by means of a region of interest and calculated pixelwise by using a fit m…

Anomalies from nonfree action of the gauge group

1990

Abstract The question whether new anomalies appear, connected with the finite dimensional part of the gauge group isomorphic to the structure group of the theory, is investigated in a systematical way. The stability groups from the stratification of the gauge group on the space of connections lead to anomalies. The detection of these anomalies within the equivariant approach pursued here is extremely simple. For a large class of theories it is shown that no new anomalies appear.

Equivariance in topological gravity

1992

Abstract We present models of topological gravity for a variety of moduli space conditions. In four dimensions, we construct a model for self-dual gravity characterized by the moduli condition R + μν =0, and in two dimensions we treat the case of constant scalar curvature. Details are also given for both flat and Yang-Mills type moduli conditions in arbitrary dimensions. All models are based on the same fundamental multiplet which conveniently affords the construction of a complete hierarchy of observables. This approach is founded on a symmetry algebra which includes a local vector supersymmetry, in addition to a global BRST-like symmetry which is equivariant with respect to Lorentz transf…

$$O_2(\mathbb {C})$$O2(C)-Vector Bundles and Equivariant Real Circle Actions

2020

The main goal of this article is to give an expository overview of some new results on real circle actions on affine four-space and their relation to previous results on \(O_2(\mathbb {C})\)-equivariant vector bundles. In Moser-Jauslin (Infinite families of inequivalent real circle actions on affine four-space, 2019, [13]), we described infinite families of equivariant real circle actions on affine four-space. In the present note, we will describe how these examples were constructed, and some consequences of these results.
