Design and Implementation of Density Sensor for Liquids Using Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor

In this paper, an optical fiber sensor based density sensor is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. The sensor is formed by fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor. The proposed sensor design is very simple and versatile for density measurements of liquids. The FBG strain sensor has one end mounted to a 3D printed rigid support, and the other end connected to a 3D manufactured clamp in this sensor design. A metal ball is suspended from this clamp by a non-stretchable cord. When it is completely immersed in liquid, the liquid buoyancy force acts on it. High Quality Factor Silicon Membrane Metasurface for Intensity-Based Refractive Index Sensing

We propose a new sensing device based on all-optical nano-objects placed in a suspended periodic array. We demonstrate that the intensity-based sensing mechanism can measure environment refractive index change of the order of 1.8×10−6, which is close to record efficiencies in plasmonic devices.

Polarization Modulation Instability in All-Normal Dispersion Microstructured Optical Fibers With Quasi-Continuous Pump

We report the experimental observation of the polarization modulation instability (PMI) effect in all-normal dispersion (ANDi) microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) with quasi-continuous pumping. The small unintentional birefringence (~10-5), that any realistic non-polarization maintaining MOF exhibits, contributes to this nonlinear effect. PMI can produce two sidebands whose polarization state is orthogonal to the polarization of the pump. In this work, only one type of PMI process is observed, i.e., when the pump is polarized along the slow axis of the fiber and sidebands are generated in the fast axis mode. Color Tuning and White Light by Dispersing CdSe, CdTe, and CdS in PMMA Nanocomposite Waveguides

In this paper, active nanocomposite waveguides based on the dispersion of CdS, CdTe, and CdSe colloidal quantum dots (QDs) in PMMA are proposed. Their propagation properties are studied as a function of the concentration of nanoparticles in the polymer using the variable length stripe method. Optical Frequency Combs Generated in Silica Microspheres in the Telecommunication C-, U-, and E-Bands

Optical frequency combs (OFCs) generated in microresonators with whispering gallery modes are demanded for different applications including telecommunications. Extending operating spectral ranges is an important problem for wavelength-division multiplexing systems based on microresonators. We demonstrate experimentally three spectrally separated OFCs in the C-, U-, and E-bands in silica microspheres which, in principle, can be used for telecommunication applications.
