Kehitysmaiden naisten representaatiot STT:n ja Helsingin Sanomien ulkomaanuutisissa

Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastellaan ulkomaanuutisissa esiintyviä kehitysmaiden naisia. Tarkoituksena on hahmottaa ja jäsentää ne esitystavat, joilla ulkomaanuutiset rakentavat tulkintaa kehitysmaiden naisista. Kehitysmaajournalismia on tutkittu viime vuosina monista näkökulmista, mutta jostain syystä huomio on kiinnittynyt sukupuoleen vain pintapuolisesti. Koska sukupuolten välinen epätasa-arvo on yksi kehitysmaiden tilanteeseen keskeisesti vaikuttava tekijä, on syytä tarkastella, millaisia representaatioita joukkoviestimet sukupuolista rakentavat. Imagined, remembered, gendered : Narratives of cosy other in the media representations of female folk singers

This article examines the narratives of cosy other in the media representations of folk singers Julie Fowlis, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Emily Portman, and Kate Rusby. I argue that the concept of cosy otherness derives from that of the internal other, but unlike it and the conventional post-colonial other, the cosy other is not ominous, competing, and negative, but something charming and unthreateningly different with singular cultural traits. Here, the narratives of cosy other combine the narratives of origins, authenticity, and performance, which in turn are connected in the active processes of remembering and premediation, and construct the four singers as nostalgic, authentic, and feminine…

Pro gradu -työssäni tutkin narratiivisia tutkimispelejä, joka on uusi ja vasta vähän tutkittu digitaalisten pelien genre. Tutkielmani on muodoltaan artikkeligradu, joka koostuu kolmesta artikkelista sekä Johdanto- ja Yhteenveto-luvuista. Ensimmäisessä artikkelissa esittelen narratiivisten tutkimispelien genreä, sen taustaa ja tärkempiä genreen kuuluvia pelejä. Lisäksi luon määritelmän narratiivisten tutkimispelien genrelle osoittamalla yhteisiä ominaispiirteitä kahdeksasta pelistä, joiden katson edustavan kyseistä genreä. Tutkielma on toteutettu kehittämistutkimuksena, jonka tuloksena tuotetaan oppimispellin suunnitelma, joka kuvailee pelin konseptin, tarinan, pelimekaniikkoja ja tehtäviä. Story beats in videogames as value-driven choice-based unit operations

We present a framework of story beats, defined as microunits of dramatic action, as a tool for the ludonarrative analysis of videogames. First, we explain the Goal - Action - Reaction - Outcome model of the story beat. Then, we present six types of story beats, Action, Interaction, Inaction, Mental, Emotion, and Sensory, providing videogame examples for each category. In the second half of the paper, we contextualise this framework in the classic game studies theory of videogame narrative and player action: unit operations, gamic action, anatomy of choice, and game design patterns, wrapping it up in the most recent trends in cognitive narratology.
