Emerging Ethical Challenges of Leadership in the Digital Era: A Multi-Vocal Literature Review.
2021
The purpose of this study is to undertake a multi-vocal literature review (MLR) regarding how leadership work has transformed as a result of digitalization and what kinds of ethical challenges organizational leaders are facing in the digital era, particularly from 1985 to 2020. Hence, a total of 83 literature are reviewed, drawing up on the method of MLR. The findings of this study suggest that the digitalization of leadership work, i.e., delegation of personal (leadership) responsibilities to digital systems, is being accelerated by the ever increasing use of technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in organizational governance and operation, particularly during the last two deca…
Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Management
2019
This study focuses on the impact of advancing Artificial Intelligence systems on management during the next decade. Much of the attention around Artificial Intelligence and work revolves around the replacement versus augmentation debate. According to previous literature, rather than simply replacing tasks, machine learning tools can complement human decision making. Based on semi-structured expert interviews, this study provides tentative evidence that this may be true for managers on the highest level of organisations, but perhaps less so for operational and middle managers who may find a larger number of their tasks replaced. As routine tasks of supervision and administration can be autom…
Experiences of arbitrary management among Finnish academics in an era of academic capitalism
2020
For the last two decades, Finnish universities have faced the implementation of new systems of control and undergone dramatic changes that have worsened academic working conditions–such as corporatisation and budget cuts. This article explores Finnish academics’ experiences of university reforms with a special focus on the consequences it has had in terms of organisational socio-dynamics. We adapt Glynos and Howarth’s logics of critical explanation and apply this theoretical framework to analyse the interviews of academics who, against their own will, did not have their contracts renewed. This approach describes, explains, and criticises the logics–which are social, political and fantasmati…
Building Strategic Partnerships for Value Co-Creation : A Conceptual Framework for Digital Service Organizations
2023
In today’s competitive, fast-paced, and technology-driven markets, digital service organizations are increasingly forming strategic partnerships to transform their businesses, accelerate innovation opportunities, and offer customers enhanced value. How these partnerships should be built to enable value co-creation and strengthen collaboration between the partner organizations has thus become an important question for research and practice. This research develops a conceptual framework to explain value co-creation in strategic (digital service) partnerships and identifies its key enablers. We contribute to the literature by expanding our understanding of how value co-creation between partner…
Digitalisaation vaikutukset johtamiseen
2016
Tämän kandidaatintutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää kirjallisuuskatsauksen avulla mitä vaikutuksia digitalisaatiolla on johtamiseen.
Estonia : From analog to digital - one step forward but two steps back?
2022
In Estonia, the key decisions concerning media accountability were made in the 1990s: First, a press council was established in 1991, then a code of ethics was adopted in 1997, and an ombudsperson institution for the public broadcasting was established in 2007. Since then, there has not been any improvement – the accountability system has not been adapted to the challenges of digitalization and the internet, and even the code of ethics has not been amended accordingly. However, Estonia has steadily occupied high positions in the global press freedom rankings, which evidences that the general political environment is favorable for media freedom. Estonian journalists are cynical about self-re…

Media, monimuotoisuus ja digitaalinen ympäristö
2017
Digitalization of global economy and public sector funding
2018
This report aims to trigger discussion. Our recent research reveals that digitalization, platform economy, Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence will change the structures of the global economy. All this will have an impact on the sources of the public sector funding. We present here strong claims because the solutions should be identified and discussed widely in the Finnish society. The scientific background you will find from references. We had the pleasure to work with a group of taxation experts with a wide and diverse background. We are grateful for the contribution of the PVN researchers: Raija Koivisto, Heidi Auvinen, Brenda Fox, Victor Vurpillat and David Rejeski. Conclusi…
