Characterization of three-dimensional microstructure of composite materials by X-ray tomography

Analysis methods for X-ray microtomographic images of short fibre composite materials were developed. The methods enable estimation of microstructural properties of the material, e.g., aspect ratio and orientation of fibres. Being based on X-ray microtomography and image analysis, the methods are nondestructive and do not require user intervention. In particular, a method for determination of the aspect ratio of fibres was first developed. The method contains an assumption about similarity of the shape of the fibres. Job Resources and Work Engagement: Optimism as Moderator Among Finnish Managers

The aim of the present study was to investigate the moderating role of optimism in the relationship between job resources (organizational climate, job control) and work engagement among Finnish young managers (N = 747). Hierarchical regression analyses showed that both job resources and optimism exerted a positive effect on work engagement and its three dimensions of vigor, dedication, and absorption. The moderation results showed that optimism can diminish the negative impact of low job resources on work engagement. Tässä työssä tutkin oppikirjaa, joka on käytössä yläkoulussa, mutta ei ole alun perin laadittu peruskoulua varten. Kirjaa käytetään yläkoulussa alkavan englannin opetuksessa. Käytännössä kaikki oppilaat näissä ryhmissä ovat maahanmuuttajataustaisia. Työssäni analysoin oppikirjan kirjallisia harjoituksia ja teoreettisena pohjana analyysilleni on tekstitaitojen (literacy) näkeminen sosiokognitiivisena prosessina, jossa korostuvat sekä kontekstin että merkityksellisen kommunikaation tärkeys. In this dissertation, I study the observance of holy days among the peasantry in the early modern province of Savo, located on the eastern periphery of the Swedish kingdom (today Eastern Finland). I examine the practices, norms and meanings related to the observance of holy days both within and outside the Church, and analyse the changes and continuities in the post-reformation period. As the main sources of the study, I use district court records and visitation records mainly from the period 1639–1712.
