Viewing the Sun as an X-ray star

The Sun is the late-type star we can study with the highest level of detail. In the interpretation of stellar data, therefore, it is often assumed that the physical processes of the coronae of late-type stars are similar to those of the solar corona, i.e. the "solar-stellar analogy". In order to investigate the validity of this assumption, we have started a program to study systematically the Sun as an X-ray star. Our program aims to explore how far the solar model can be applied to other stars. Coronal properties of G-type stars in different evolutionary phases

We report on the analysis of XMM-Newton observations of three G-type stars in very different evolutionary phases: the weak-lined T Tauri star HD 283572, the Zero Age Main Sequence star EK Dra and the Hertzsprung-gap giant star 31 Com. They all have high X-ray luminosity (10^31 erg/s for HD 283572 and 31 Com and 10^30 erg/s for EK Dra). We compare the Emission Measure Distributions (EMDs) of these active coronal sources, derived from high-resolution XMM-Newton grating spectra, as well as the pattern of elemental abundances vs. First Ionization Potential (FIP). Staurosporine-induced apoptosis in Chang liver cells is associated with down-regulation of Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL.

A potent inhibitor of serine/threonine kinases, staurosporine exerts antiproliferative and apoptotic effects in many cancer cells, although the exact mechanism of its action is still unclear. This study examines the effects of staurosporine on Chang liver cells, an immortalized non-tumor cell line, in comparison with those caused in HuH-6 and HepG2 cells, two human hepatoma cell lines. Our results provide evidence that staurosporine promotes apoptosis in Chang liver cells as observed by flow cytometric analysis and acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining. GEM-TPC-ilmaisin on kaasutäytteinen hiukkasilmaisin, jolla pystytään mittaaamaan hyvin pieniä sähköisiä signaaleja ja niiden syntypaikkaa ilmaisimessa. Näitä ilmaisimia tullaan tulevaisuudessa käyttämään mm. FAIRtutkimuslaitoksen Super-FRS-nimisessä fragmenttiseparaattorissa. Tässä tutkielmassa analysoin kesällä 2016 GEM-TPC:llä GSI:ssä suoritettuja ilmaisintestimittauksia ROOT-ohjelmiston avulla. Alkuun kerron, miksi GEM-TPC-ilmaisin on lähdetty suunnittelemaan, minkälaisia mittauksia ja missä sillä on tarkoitus tehdä. Tutkielman loppupuolella analysoin testimittausten tuloksia. Issues regarding green restaurants have received significant scholarly and practitioner attention in the last decade, particularly concerning why consumers adopt green restaurants. Although several reviews exist on green hospitality, a comprehensive review of the literature on consumers' green restaurant adoption is currently lacking. The following systematic literature review examines 50 research studies published on the consumer adoption of green restaurant services to address this gap accordingly. Pēdējais Pinguicula alpina L. paraugs no Staburaga

LU Muzeja Botānikas un mikoloģiju kolekciju herbārijā glabājas vairāki alpu kreimules herbāriji, kas ievākti gan Igaunijā, gan Latvijā. Auga vienīgā dabiskā augtene Latvijā bija Staburags, kas tika apludināts līdz ar HES būvniecību. Vēlākos gados tā bija atrodama arī Raunas Staburagā. Alpu kreimules paraugi LU Muzejā glabājas Herbarium Latvicum (RIG II), Herbarium Balticum (RIG I), Herbarium Lakshewitzi (RIG III) un Jāņa Ilstera herbārijā. Herbarium Latvicum glabājas pēdējais uz Staburaga Botāniķes Gaidas Ābeles (dz. 1931. gadā) ievāktais paraugs.
