High performance liquid chromatography–nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analyses of taxane diterpenoids from three Taxus species were carried out employing a stopped-flow technique. Several taxanes have been identified from 500 mg leaf samples without prior isolation. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract Coupled reversed-phase HPLC–NMR spectroscopy has been applied to the rapid detection and identification of plant metabolites of Torreya jackii , a species of Taxaceae. Analysis consisted of gradient HPLC elution and directly coupled 1 H NMR (500 MHz) spectroscopic detection in a stopped-flow mode. Seven lignans were detected and their structures were elucidated, based on their HPLC– 1 H NMR spectra and MS data. The structures were confirmed by isolation of the single components followed by conventional NMR measurements.

The general negative impact of forestry on wood-inhabiting fungal diversity is well recognized, yet the effect of forest naturalness is poorly disentangled among different fungal groups inhabiting dead wood of different tree species. We studied the relationship between forest naturalness, log characteristics and diversity of different fungal morpho-groups inhabiting large decaying logs of similar quality in spruce dominated boreal forests. We sampled all non-lichenized fruitbodies from birch, spruce, pine and aspen in 12 semi-natural forest sites of varying level of naturalness. A pure culture of an actinobacterium previously described as 'Candidatus Rhodoluna lacicola' strain MWH-Ta8 was established and deposited in two public culture collections. Strain MWH-Ta8(T) represents a free-living planktonic freshwater bacterium obtained from hypertrophic Meiliang Bay, Lake Taihu, PR China. The strain was characterized by phylogenetic and taxonomic investigations, as well as by determination of its complete genome sequence. Strain MWH-Ta8(T) is noticeable due to its unusually low values of cell size (0.05 µm(3)), genome size (1.43 Mbp), and DNA G+C content (51.5 mol%). Strain 7SM30T , an aerobic marine, Gram-negative, heterotrophic and yellow- to orange-pigmented bacterium isolated from seawater from Castellón, Spain, was characterized using a polyphasic approach. Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that the isolate represented a novel lineage within the family Flavobacteriaceae. The most closely related genera were Pseudozobellia, Zobellia and Kriegella. Entre otros factores, la creación del nou imposit de la seda en 1552 incentivó esta actividad ilícita, que llegó a convertirse en un modo de vida en las principales regiones productoras (especialmente la Ribera del Júcar) y un motivo constante de litigio para las autoridades, incapaces de frenar este tráfico ilícito. Fast shuttling motions in solution have been observed by cyclic voltammetry in a Cu(I/II)-based [2] rotaxane. In the reported system, the different coordination preferences of both copper oxidation states are exploited to promote the electrochemically-triggered gliding of the ring from a tetra to a pentacoordinated site and vice versa. The thread of this rotaxane consists of a tridentate 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine chelating unit directly bonded through its 5-position to the 3-position of the bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline unit.
