Microbiological analyses were conducted on wild eels from the L′Albufera Lake (Spain). A total of 174 individuals were collected in two surveys (i.e. year 2008 and autumn–winter 2014) among those caught by local fishermen into the lagoon. The prevalence of Shewanella putrefaciens group was 1.7% in 2008 and rose above 32% in 2014. It was due to an outbreak of shewanellosis that presented a morbidity rate of 64%. S. putrefaciens group strains were isolated as pure cultures from the sick eels that showed white ulcers surrounded by a reddish inflammation, damage of the mouth, extensive skin discoloration, exophthalmia, ascites and bad odour. Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most common hospital-acquired Gram-negative pathogens. During the last decade, the emergence of strains with reduced susceptibility or resistance to carbapenems is becoming a therapeutic challenge. This study takes place after the isolation of 14 strains of carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae with similar susceptibility patterns and carriage of OXA-48 and NDM-1 carbapenemases genes. The first wave of the Spanish COVID-19 epidemic was associated with early introductions and fast spread of a dominating genetic variant

The COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the world since the beginning of 2020. Spain is among the European countries with the highest incidence of the disease during the first pandemic wave. We established a multidisciplinar consortium to monitor and study the evolution of the epidemic, with the aim of contributing to decision making and stopping rapid spreading across the country. We present the results for 2170 sequences from the first wave of the SARS-Cov-2 epidemic in Spain and representing 12% of diagnosed cases until 14th March.
