Treatment of human brucellosis with rifampin plus minocycline

In order to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of a high intravenous dose of rifampin plus oral minocycline (administered daily for 3 weeks) for the treatment of acute brucellosis, we retrospectively reviewed the outcome of 239 consecutive patients (135 adults and 104 children) diagnosed and treated over a 17-year period in Italy. The combination used resulted in 100% response and a relapse rate lower than 2%. Frame-based and frameless stereotaxy in the localization of cavernous angiomas

Cavernous angiomas are mostly small intracranial vascular lesions which can be intraoperatively localized by sonography or stereotactic methods. This paper compares the results of cavernous angioma surgery localized by frame-based vs frameless techniques. Thirty-nine patients with cortical or subcortical lobar cavernoma were operated on by a microsurgical trans-sulcal approach. The localization of the lesion was performed in 19 (49%) patients by frame-based technique and in 20 (51%) patients by frameless navigation. Upon sexual maturation, olfactory acuity in women ameliorates and starts oscillating across the cycle. During ovulation, mean olfactory threshold is 30 times lower than during bleeding. Interestingly, menstruated women undergo maleodorant trimethylaminuria. We argued that olfactory amelioration during ovulation might concur to a mating strategy, whereas olfactory impairment during bleeding might protect women against self-refusal. Testosterone and its 17β-estradiol derivative might be responsible for the synchronization of these menstrual events. To investigate if certain common age-related comorbidities are related with a positive aging males' symptoms (AMS) test outcome.This was a multicentric, transversal, observational study carried out in a male population with erectile dysfunction. Comorbidities and testosterone levels were registered. The relationship between comorbidities, testosterone levels, and the AMS test outcomes was studied using the global score and the sub-scale score components.The study included 1112 patients. Adults of three age groups (18-27, 39-45, and 59-66 years) performed an auditory duration discrimination task with short (200 ms) or long (400 ms) sinusoidal tones. Performance was highly accurate and reaction times were on the same level in all groups, indicating no differences in auditory duration processing. Task irrelevant rare changes of the frequency of the stimuli were introduced to check whether the subjects, firstly, were distracted by changes in the environment while focusing on the task relevant information (indicated by prolonged responses), and, secondly, could re-focus on the relevant task after distraction.
