To assess the reliability of those predictions, they need to be critically validated with respect to what they are used for. A new methodology for automated extraction of repeated patterns in time-series data is presented, aimed in particular at the analysis of musical sequences. The basic principles consists in a search for closed patterns in a multi-dimensional parametric space. It is shown that this basic mechanism needs to be articulated with a periodic pattern discovery system, implying therefore a strict chronological scanning of the time-series data. A Bayesian spatio‐temporal analysis of markets during the Finnish 1860s famine

We develop a Bayesian spatio-temporal model to study pre-industrial grain market integration during the Finnish famine of the 1860s. Our model takes into account several problematic features often present when analysing multiple spatially interdependent time series. For example, compared with the error correction methodology commonly applied in econometrics, our approach allows simultaneous modelling of multiple interdependent time series avoiding cumbersome statistical testing needed to predetermine the market leader as a point of reference. I look at the image of a generation of youth as the vanguard force of an ongoing struggle for independence and a new nation on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Ivorian independence. Drawing upon the theoretical framework of Reinhart Koselleck, I explore the making of national time as layered temporality, with generations not succeeding each other but rather coexisting. My analysis of expressions and performances of ‘doing being youth’ helps in understanding how the label ‘youth’ is used to mark membership in or exclusion from a collective. Brief History of Computer Art and New Media Art in Latvia

The Soviet and particularly Latvian computer art is not a well-known topic of digital art history. This paper attempts to analyze this computer art in context of the 20th century art, considering the political circumstances in Soviet Union. At the turn of the 21st century after gaining the independence new media art examples and collaboration between scientists, computer scientists, software programmers and the artists are to be found in Latvia. Some recent media art events are mentioned from this viewpoint.
