La Parola di Dio iscritta sulla pelle nella prassi artistica post-concettuale di Douglas Gordon
2021
The paper offers an analysis of how tattoos, although they only very recently established a niche of their own in contemporary art, became an important medium of religious art, particularly for Christianity. A central character is identified in Scottish artist Douglas Gordon, a celebrity of todays art world, who addressed the relationship with the Word of God already in his early works. Indeed, Gordon's tattoos are textual and inscribe the body with words. Penance and faith, possession and salvation are at the center of his creativity and find tattoos to be a convenient vehicle to confer a newly rediscovered sacred dimension to the body. In Gordons works the inscription acquires a religious…
A person-environment-fit-model for temporary organizations - Antecedents for temporary working settings
2021
Abstract Projectification has led to the widespread use of temporary organizations (TOs) in many industries, but the various factors that determine successful work by employees in TOs are unexplored. We argue that organizations have different degrees of temporariness depending on the following five TO dimensions: temporal duration, nature of the task, team composition, hierarchy, and coordination. Considering the TO dimensions and varying degrees of temporariness, we propose a person-environment (P-E) fit model. The model comprises three levels – organizational-, group-, and job-oriented – and relates personal attributes to the TO dimensions. We contribute to theory by developing a set of p…
Unfolding Cyberspace: A Phenomenological Approach to Cyberplace, Technology, and Community
2017
In this chapter, a possible phenomenology of the cyberspaces of the World Wide Web is outlined. Recent studies have suggested that concepts of existential phenomenology can provide convincing perspectives on cyberspace that enable a deep understanding of contemporary life, characterised by an increased blending of humans and modern technology . Based on the notions of “coming-to-the-world” coined by Peter Sloterdijk and “inhabiting ” from Tim Ingold , this chapter shows how we can conceive of the emergence of cyberplace s as a by-product of the process of unlocking cyberspace by inhabiting the contemporary world. This perspective also incorporates arguments from Actor-Network Theory and can…
Dominating, Protecting, Creating. A Philosophical Essay about Utopianist Attitudes
2017
The Heart of the City: Temporary Experience in Architecture
2022
The rapid and profound transformation to which the city is subjected leads to the urgency of restarting a debate on the relationship between habitat and public space in order to provide the community with answers to guide the choices of future urban transformations and redevelopments. This debate - widely investigated during the second half of the 20th century, with an approach aimed at the potential of public space in terms of connection, interaction and exchange with the community - has given rise to new projects open to the unexpected and capable of triggering creative processes, formal or informal, in urban contexts that are often disused. In the last decades, issues related to social i…
Temporary workers: the role of Corporate Image on Work Engagement
2012
Introduction: A great deal of attention has been given recently on relations between the employees and organization: if this relation is not healthy, it decreases the likelihood of turnover (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, 2009); employers are unlikely to invest in organizational commitment and motivation to work for temporary workers (Allen, Meyer, 1990; Becker, 1993; Amuedo-Dorantes, 2000; De Cuyper et al., 2008). In order to be successful, organizations should strategically aim to fit the individual values with corporate values (Bellotto, 1997). Value conflicts decrease employees' involvement in their work. Employees experience a de-motivating situation in which they are d…
Root repair after damage due to screw insertion for orthodontic miniplate placement
2019
Background: The aim of this investigation was to describe the healing reactions following root damage caused by placement of a miniplate anchorage system.Material and Methods: In 4 beagle dogs, 4 titanium miniplates (2 self-tapping screws per miniplate) were placed in each maxilla, after drilling of pilot-holes. Six fixation screws were unintentionally inserted damaging the root of maxillary canines. Two weeks later, half of the miniplates were loaded with a coil spring. Two dogs were euthanized 7 weeks after placement of the miniplates, while the remaining two after 29 weeks. Histological sections were prepared, microradiographed, observed under U.V. light, then stained and analysed under …

First record of arctodiaptomus wierzejskii (Richard, 1888) (Copepoda Calanoida Diaptomidae) from Malta
2020
Diaptomid copepods belonging to the genus Arctodiaptomus Kiefer, 1932 were collected in two temporary water bodies in Malta. The morphological identification of the collected specimens proved that they belong to Arctodiaptomus wierzejskii (Richard, 1888) even if a morphological peculiarity pertaining to the morphology of the male right antennule of the Maltese populations was observed and here briefly discussed. This finding constitutes the first record of a calanoid copepod from the inland waters of the Maltese Islands.
