The Aqua-Planet Experiment (APE): Response to Changed Meridional SST Profile
2013
This paper explores the sensitivity of Atmospheric General Circulation Model (AGCM) simulations to changes in the meridional distribution of sea surface temperature (SST). The simulations are for an aqua-planet, a water covered Earth with no land, orography or sea- ice and with specified zonally symmetric SST. Simulations from 14 AGCMs developed for Numerical Weather Prediction and climate applications are compared. Four experiments are performed to study the sensitivity to the meridional SST profile. These profiles range from one in which the SST gradient continues to the equator to one which is flat approaching the equator, all with the same maximum SST at the equator. The zonal mean circ…
Audiological Findings in Children With Mucopolysaccharidoses Type I–IV
2017
Abstract Objective The aim of our study is to reflect hearing impairment of 23 children diagnosed with mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type I, II, III and IV. Methods Retrospective study of the clinical, audiological and treatment (medical vs surgical) findings of 23 children diagnosed with MPS type I, II, III and IV followed at a Tertiary Referral Hospital between 1997 and 2015. Results Six cases of MPS I, 8 of MPS II, 4 of MPS III and 5 of MPS IV were reviewed. 71.2% of patients had secretory otitis media (SOM) and 54% of patients had some type of hearing loss (HL). The behaviour of hearing loss was variable in each of the subgroups of MPS, finding greater involvement and variability in types…
CONSULTING SERVICES – A BOOMING NICHE WITHIN THE TERTIARY SECTOR OF OUR ECONOMY?
2012
The paper aims to analyze the current status of the consulting services within our beleagured economy, and tries to foresee the growth perspectives which this subsector may present for it. The accent is put on consulting, from human resources to IT, with the core element being European funding, a subject which is overly debated within the media nowadays. The paper also tries to distinguish between the different types of consulting firms, as well as whether or not consultance for European funds, given by Romanian consultants has been booming or just busted, in terms of succesful projects. The main issues of the consulting sector are analyzed, with the stated purpose of trying to propose new …
The trees in the middle of Paradise (Gn 2:9) during the Great Lent: Orthodox hymnography as biblical interpretation
2022
The article examines the interpretation of the Scripture in Byzantine hymnography during the Great Lent. Some notable recent contributions focus on Andrew of Crete’s and Romanos the Melodist’s compositions, illustrating the hymnographic way of understanding the Scriptures. The author of this study presents a selection of stanzas from hymns of the Triodion that refer to the trees of Paradise. Hymnography perceives the trees in Genesis 2–3 in direct connection with the cross. Only rarely is the tree of life a metaphor for Jesus, as the shadow of the tree of the cross is seldom a metaphor for protection. Another interesting aspect in relation to hymnography is the fact that it represents a typ…
4-Methyl-N-(4-methylpyridin-2-yl)-N-(3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-yl)pyridin-2-amine
2016
In the title compound, C17H21N3O, the pyridine rings make a dihedral angle of 84.44 (5)°. In the crystal, a C—H...N interaction forms a chain of molecules propagating along the twofold screw axis.
Dagens Rødhette i en flerkulturell kontekst – mulighet for en ny identitet?
2013
The starting point for this article is the tendency in recent Norwegian children’s and Ya fiction to thematize cultural encounters in an increasingly multicultural and globalized world. The picturebook Little Miss Eye Flap ( Skylappjenta , 2009) written by the Pakistani-Norwegian author and actor Iram Haq and illustrated by Endre Skandfer, presents a modern version of traditional folktales such as Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel . However, the traditional structure of home – away – home gives particular emphasis to the phase of homelessness, not providing any safe return to harmony. This condition of liminal space between cultures is discussed in light of the concepts of reflexive ident…
