Choosing Who You Are: The Structure and Behavioral Effects of Revealed Identification Preferences

Differences in individuals’ social identity have recently been shown to explain differences in behavior. But where do differences in social identity come from? Theory claims that identification allows people to affect their social identity by choosing who they are. Accordingly, this paper treats social identity as a choice and analyzes its behavioral effects. We find identification to be systematically related to behavioral heterogeneity in group-specific social preferences. Esta investigación tiene como objeto elaborar un instrumento que permita el análisis de las imágenes, de los libros de texto de Educación Física (en adelante EF), en las cuales no aparece la figura humana o aparece sin realizar actividad física. El instrumento se dividió en cuatro dimensiones: a) características técnicas de la imagen, b) otras imágenes relacionadas con el personaje, c) otras imágenes relacionadas con la actividad física y d) otras imágenes. The acquisition of physical activity habits during adolescence is fundamental to guarantee its adherence throughout life. However, these levels decrease during this stage, with women experimenting a more significant decrease. This paper aims to analyze if there are significant differences in the variables related to the intention to be physically active between men and women and if there is a moderating effect of gender on the variables that predict this intention. The aim of the present study is to determine the treatment given to the pictures of the body and physical activity in Physical Education’s textbooks for Primary School. The sample consists of 997 images of nine textbooks published by five publishers. A descriptive analysis was performed on the variables gender, age, race, and somatotype that refer to the body, and type, scope, space, and level of practice referred to physical activity. Imágenes complementarias en los libros de texto de Educación Física: un estudio de los estereotipos en los textos de Primaria

El objetivo del estudio es averiguar qué imágenes complementarias se representan en los libros de texto de Educación Física en la etapa de Primaria, y comprobar si reproducen estereotipos. La muestra estuvo formada por un total de 2056 imágenes, pertenecientes a 34 libros de texto de la etapa de Primaria, publicados por seis editoriales españolas entre 2006 y 2013. La técnica de investigación fue el análisis de contenido a través de la herramienta SAIMEF.
