Operation of silicon photomultipliers as photosensors of liquid xenon detectors

Silicon Photomultipliers as photosensors for liquid xenon detectors are an attractive alternative to photomultiplier tubes: liquid xenon detectors employed in low background experiments or compact Compton cameras can take advantage of the small sensor mass and dimensions, the larger light collection coming from a more packed tiling of the readout plane, and possibly a smaller cost per area. We investigate the operation in liquid xenon of samples developed by Ketek GmbH. To provide sensitivity to the liquid xenon scintillation light wavelength, 178 nm, the inactive entrance layer of the device has been thinned. The metalloproteinase-disintegrin ADAM10 is exclusively expressed by type I muscle fibers.

ADAM10 (Kuzbanian) is a member of a recently discovered family of membrane-anchored metalloproteinases with a complex and conserved domain structure. In part, these metalloproteinases have been implicated in muscle formation. Herein the expression pattern of ADAM10 in human skeletal muscle was studied. ADAM10 was found to be present in human myoblasts and to be exclusively expressed in type I fibers, suggesting that it may be critical in muscle fiber differentiation.

Pētījuma mērķis ir aplūkot Eiropas Savienības struktūrfondu līdzekļu izmantošanu Latgales plānošanas reģionā, ar nolūku radīt jaunas darba vietas un piesaistīt kvalificētus profesionāļus. Teorētiskajā daļā tika aplūkoti desmit D.Fetterman pilnvarošanas teorijas principi. Savukārt empīriskajā daļā tika veikts Latgales plānošanas reģiona atbilstības kritērijiem izvērtējums. Autoresprāt, šis pētījums sniegs ieskatu Latgales plānošanas reģiona izvērstajā reģionālās attīstības. Olive mill wastewaters decontamination based on organo-nano-clay composites

Abstract Green composites for environmental applications were successfully prepared by intercalation of the biosurfactant Quillaja saponin onto montmorillonite mineral clay on varying pH and surfactant/clay ratio. Equilibrium adsorption isotherms were constructed and the system was characterized by performing TGA and XRD analyses. The efficiency of the surfactant-modified clay in the removal of the organic content present in olive mill wastewaters (OMW) was evaluated by means of spectrophotometric measurements. Solution and thermal behaviour of novel dicationic imidazolium ionic liquids

A new class of functionalised dicationic ionic liquids, containing a central cationic unit capped by a basic functionality (imidazole), has been synthesised. These salts have been characterised in isotropic solution using proton and 2D-NMR spectroscopy, and their thermal stability has been studied by DSC and TGA. All these novel salts contain the 1-(1-imidazolylmethyl)-3,5-di{1-(3'-octylimidazolylmethyl)}-benzene cation as a defining structural motif.
