Antithrombotic therapy of Cerebral cavernous malformations

Abstract Cavernous malformations are recognized as the most common vascular anomalies in the brain, that often lead to hemorrhage with neurological symptoms. Usually the treatment is surgical removal or stereotactic radiotherapy. We present a case of a slow-flow vascular anomaly located in the cavernous sinus with recurrent partial thrombotic areas. Inspired by treatment of peripheral venous anomalies antithrombotic therapy was initiated instead of surgery or stereotactic radiotherapy. This led to complete spontaneous resolution of the lesion and normalization of symptoms within nine months. Leg extension power asymmetry and mobility limitation in healthy older women

Objective To investigate the association of asymmetry in leg extension power (LEP) with walking and standing balance. Design Cross-sectional analysis. Setting Research laboratory. Participants Healthy female twins (N=419), ages 63 to 75 years. Interventions Not applicable. Main Outcome Measures The LEP difference between the stronger and the weaker leg, measured with the Nottingham power rig, was calculated. Recurrent On-Duty Sleepiness and Alertness Management Strategies in Long-Haul Airline Pilots

Introduction We examined whether long-haul airline pilots without recurrent on-duty sleepiness obtain more prior sleep and use more effective in-flight alertness management strategies than their colleagues with recurrent on-duty sleepiness. Methods There were 51 pilots who flew at least twice from Helsinki to Asia. Of them, 44 flew at least twice back to Helsinki following 1 local night. On-duty sleepiness was measured by the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS), alertness management strategies by a diary, and sleep by a diary and activity monitor.
