Volume change characteristics of fine-grained soils due to sequential thermo-mechanical stresses

Know-how of volume change characteristics, VCC, of the fine-grained soils, exposed to thermal stresses, is essential for design of various thermo-active structures. These stresses are known to induce excess pore-water pressure, Δu θ , in the saturated state of such soils, which in turn affects their compression and shear strength characteristics. Citohroma c peroksidāzes loma Zymomonas Mobilis termiskā un oksidatīvā stresa noturībā

Lai pētītu Zymomonas mobilis citohroma c peroksidāzes ietekmi uz celmu termiskā un oksidatīvā stresa noturību, izveidots plazmīdas konstrukts ar ccp gēnu. Ar to transformēts Zymomonas mobilis celms Zm6. Kultivējot jauniegūto celmu, izejas celmu un iepriekš izveidotus mutantus celmus ar inaktivētu citohroma c peroksidāzi un celmu ar inaktivētu katalāzi, salīdzināta celmu izturība oksidatīvā un termālā stresa apstākļos. Audzēšanas eksperimentos parādīts, ka pārbaudītajos mikroaerofīlajos apstākļos citohroma c peroksidāzes aizsargājošā funkcija nav tik izteikta kā aerobos apstākļos. Patella rustica and Patella caerulea are two congeneric limpet species, both occurring along the rocky shores of the Mediterranean but on different tidal heights. P. rustica is dominant in the upper intertidal zone while P. caerulea is more abundant in the lower part of the same zone. Understanding variations in physiological adaptations to thermal stress is vital when investigating intertidal species' distribution. The complex environment of the operating theatre is shared by a group of people having highly different needs: on one side, there is a surgical team whose work may last many hours and, on the other, an anaesthetized patient often subject to liquid infusion.
